Where to begin...
First off, I think she's quick to blame her troubles on being a ladyboy. I'm not ignorant to the fact that ladyboys face limited options and discrimination in the workplace, but I'm not stupid. I've personally met a few ladyboys that appear to have decent jobs with bright career prospects who seem happy in their current fields of employment. They do well enough and are satisfied enough that they don't feel the need to sell their bodies for baht. Probably somewhat weaker of an argument, but I've heard of other ladyboys that have started their own businesses or gotten jobs in other good places. As pointed out in this forum many times, the actual number of ladyboy prostitutes working in bars or freelancing is only a small percentage of the total population. Somehow the majority of LBs get by in life without laying on their backs... It's hard to say if this is the reason for this particular ladyboy's predicament - but there are a variety of factors (remember, this being Thailand) that could halt one's upward mobility in the career world. Could it be she's just not that smart or hard-working, that she didn't go to a good uni, that she didn't get good grades, or that her family is of poor ancestry, yadda yadda yadda. The list could go on. I hear it all the time when in the US. "I didn't get hired by X because I'm Latino" or "They picked that guy over me because he's better looking". Half the time I want to scream to these people to get a clue! If you read her rant again, she's saying she wants to run away from "petty salaries and jobs that suck". That pretty much describes half the jobs in Thailand (and probably half in the US too), but you don't see half of Thailand working in bars. Clearly there is girl is of a different cut than the other Thais you see toiling around in the rice fields, KFC, taxis, and small shops.
Second, she tries to make an argument of not being greedy. Yeah sure, some of the girls who work in these places have a heart of gold (snicker), but that's maybe 1 in a million. Most of the girls we talk about on this forum can make a small fortune in a month - often times making the kind of salary most Thais think about earning for a month's work in a matter of days. Yet, they continue working, continue hassling customers for tips and drinks, continue to haggle with even experienced punters, and more often than not try to rip off the newbs. One only has to read the first trip reports of people such as myself, Simon, and Bk120 to see where this occurs. Before we blame the punters for being stupid - lets not forget that I/these guys also had experiences with girls that charged more of a "fair" rate. Once again, its hard to determine the "fair" rate as there is no set price for this service, but its not difficult to see where the greed falls in.
Third, this ladyboy only tells one side of the story - the bad side. We've all met some friends from the board at one time or another in LOS and I can see its a fine group. None of the guys I've met even remotely resembles the guy in her story one bit. And I've probably met 15+ guys from ATS forums. All of these chaps are respectable, know how to treat a lady, tip well, and have done extraordinary things for the girls they've seen. Whether it be trips to Phuket or Hua Hin, a new air conditioner, jewelry, or just a generous sum for their time and companionship - I'm sure this ladyboy has seen it and certainly more than once. I'm sure she takes those with a smile and never gives it a second thought about what these people have done for her. Until she can give both sides of the coin I'm inclined to tell this girl to just deal with it. She's dug her own grave, don't cry when you have to sleep in it.
