(reflectionsgold @ Apr. 06 2006,07:19) you guys are nuts this guy has been the best PM in the country's history--what's good for the prime minister is good for the Thai economy. And as for the king he won't get involved in public. why should he.
I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one.

People voted for him 5 years ago thinking, he is so rich he does not need to steal from us. Boy did that turn out to be wrong.
The sale of Shin corp was just the last straw, he sold Thai assets ( the only sattalite, the only private TV station, etc..) to Singapore to $2 billion USD, and funneled the shares through the US Virgin Islands so he ended up paying NO tax on the deal. He also had a law passed the previous week raising foreign ownership rights that made the sale possible.

The "investigation" into the sale was "resolved" in two days, and of course found no wrong doing.

I know some of the LB'S hope that whoever is going to replace him will have the bars go back to closing at 1 a.m. and not this 2 a.m. shite. I keep hearing from them that they do not like to have to dance one more hour extra. It seems that they do not sit about hoping to be swept off their feet by some horney Farang who in most cases by this hour are three sheets to the wind and not very attractive despite waving wads of Baht in their face.
For me Thaksin is just another guy who used the system to his advantage. He just happened to do it with a lot more balls than most of his ilk. These guys are the same no matter what country you are in. Let's not forget this one important fact, Thailand prides itself on being a democracy and he was duly elected with a hugh majority three times now. His support is still very strong among the rural Thai people who gained the most from his policies. I say piss on the Thai intellectual elite, the rich who were jealous of him and the middle class who did not get enough from him.

(Aircon @ Apr. 06 2006,03:33) The King IS American.  Born in the USA, look it up.
Yes the King was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His father Prince Mahidol was finishing his medical study at Harvard University at that time. He was brought back to Thailand the following year.

One of the most common misconceptions!
            - He is rich already, why should he "steal" more money?
Duh!! And how do you think people who get rich made their money? Obviously by taking advange of law loopholes, by having important friends "up-there", by doing irregular transactions which may not be so blunt at the outsiders' eyes but turning out to generate huge profits, and so on and so forth..
A very similar case is Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, accused and (unjustly!!) proved innocent of having bribed half of Italy.
Having said that, we have to recognize that most, if not all of the famous persons who made loads of money, do have uncanny abilities, but that alone would have not bring them where they are.
And the thirst of power and more money let some of them decide to enter into politic.
Do only what you think it's good for you, and not what others think should be good for you!

If he'd have stayed there I'll bet he would have become a good Mass Democrat and would have surely voted for JFK back in 1960.

I wonder if he has dual citizenship? I thought being born here automatically made one a US citizen

And how do you think the Kennedys and Rothschilds allegedly made their fortunes? The former from bootleg whisky during the prohibition era of 1920s America. Joe Kennedy was the 'crack' baron of his day. Ironically JFK and RFK waged an all out war against the mafia. They were their daddy's associates. The Rothschilds were robber barons, gangsters, slumlord tycoons before they moved up market and settled into banking.

Anybody who is off the gentry or so called monied classes their families must have made their wealth from dubious means. Never envy them. in the UK they all must have been involved in the slave trade, which was the most profitable industry for centuries.
