I think there in lies the problem Stogie,  I would say they do meet western expectations. You ask any western who's never been to Thailand to describe what they would expect from a Thai GoGo and most would pretty much describe a Nana bar.

It's only when you've been there a few times that you realise how boring it can be watching lifeless dancers doing the soft shoe shuffle and the music too loud for you to talk to your mate. Unfortunately there are too many newbies flocking to LOS each year for the bars to make a change.

I'd like to see a bar with a lounge area and a seperate (sound proof) room with  dance stage so once you've met your Tiirak de jour you can then talk to them without loosing your voice.

There is actually a bar/restaurant which I think meet your requirements on Sukhumvit between soi 5 and soi 7 (as far as I remember). It is called Check in Garden or something like that.
If you don´t look for it it is easily over looked, because it seems to be just a door in the wall. Inside there is bar on your right, from where a big room opens up with waited tables, (and waiting ladies in dresses), a dancefloor and a small orchestra switching between dinner music, and a little louder dancemusic with a vocalist.
I don´t know the pricelevel as I just walked in there of curiousity and consumed a beer at 110 TB in the bar, while looking. Although eastern decor looking like a european dinner dance restaurant set up.
You can always take a look next time in BKK.

I saw one lb spell Cascade as Catsgate. Spell it like it sounds which is kind of how it was in the USA 150 years ago or so.

The 'Check in Garden' sounds like the Beer Garden on Soi 7. It does sort of look like a hole in the wall and yet is surprisingly large inside.
It's a favourite hangout of the afternoon drinkers. If you were charged 110 Baht for a beer they have put their prices up  


There are not normally any ladyboys here. The only ones I have seen were imported by myself or others. The waiting staff even then gave them strange looks  


The gg's here are normally about 1000 Baht ST. After 8pm many tend to go elsewhere - freelancing on Sukumwit etc.
If you are not fussy you could get a discount on what is left - not sure that you would want to though  


The 'dream' bar you are all describing sounds like a place called 'The Lounge Bar'. This was very close to the Raunchitt Hotel - where there is now a building site.
It will be sadly missed by myself and several others. This had a sort of Austin Powers funky style design. It had a couple of pool tables, a widescreen TV in a separate room - aparently good for feeling up your young lady in the dark  
and amazingly clean toilets for a Thai bar!


If I was dumb enough to try to run a bar in Thailand this was pretty much what it would look like.

I'm not sure how much longer this deal with Cascades and Obsessions girls working together will last, but it seems like a golden oppurtunity is being missed as far as model scouting is going; if I were there right now I could probably find 40 or more new models for the site. All in one place!
