The more barren these clubs are and the more ladyboys cram inside them the more loathe I am to put my head round the corner!

It doesn't matter how much money you spend on these places and it doesn't matter how many people work there the only way these places will start to become appealing to Westerners is when they start appealing to Western expectations!

No-one goes into these places for a relaxing drink. They're simply places to find a prostitute.

This is bourne out by the fact that our preference in these threads is based on one criteria and one alone... the quality of the meat packed inside.

Not once do we suggest that the clubs have another advantage or failing over each other. None of them serve food and none of them have 'happy hours!' None cater to the atmosphere that tourists and visitors like to go out to enjoy. None of the clubs focus on service and none think long term about their customer base.

It's typical of the Asian-Chinese mentality that they really think to themselves that if they are loud enough and aggressive enough - '...they will come!'

They are empty for one reason alone and that is no-one likes to go to them!

If they all shut down tomorrow I for one would not miss them.

I would, we need models; Nana Plaza is like one large casting couch for this website

but I agree these places suck for hanging out; they would get more of my business if they turned it down a LOT and made it into a lounge where I could relax with buddies in a booth and converse normally and have the girls there as a backdrop.

Thinking about what happens if they all shut down is an interesting thought as I'm hearing rumours about closing the whole Nana (zoning, real estate mafia, etc.) for quite a while now. If I had to put money in a business like this it would always be at Patpong - always was and will always be! (not sure about the surviving of Soi Cowboy either.....)

Totally agree with you on that point Stogie. One day someone with a half a brain will get there act together and actually put the customers comforts as a priority.

They have done this in Taiwan to some extent, with decent cuisine ,nice comfy seats, cushions, flowers etc etc... but boy! do you get a big fucking bill at the end. I have seen guys in tears after seeing the check .

But seeing at the price of living is BKK is not so high i would not mind paying a little more. Also it would be nice to see the girl slinking around in evening dresses so at least something is left to the imagination......fantasy forfillment i believe is the word im looking for

Personally I don't like Patpong for a second. All those stalls selling fakes make it almost impossible to walk and you are constantly harassed by the upstairs' sexy show pushers
If NEP would close, I'm sure the busienss will relocate somewhere else.
As for Soi Cowboy, I passed thru there last sunday and it's more pathetic then ever. Very few clients. Very few pretty ladies, although I spotted a cute LB. Unless they do something to regain the market share it will die up. The only hope they have is taht indeed NEP closes down!
However, until Thailand will remain a relatively undeveloped country (like Indonesia, The Philippines, etc..) prostitution will thrive and situation will be much better than places like Tokyo, Seould, S'pore, Taipei, where a girl costs almost like in Europe.
Very true what Tomacat and Stogie are saying..it would just take an ounce of class and good taste to make things a bit different and less raw. But again, if that would happen Thailand wouldn't be called Thailand but Japan!!

I think there in lies the problem Stogie,  I would say they do meet western expectations. You ask any western who's never been to Thailand to describe what they would expect from a Thai GoGo and most would pretty much describe a Nana bar.

It's only when you've been there a few times that you realise how boring it can be watching lifeless dancers doing the soft shoe shuffle and the music too loud for you to talk to your mate. Unfortunately there are too many newbies flocking to LOS each year for the bars to make a change.

I'd like to see a bar with a lounge area and a seperate (sound proof) room with dance stage so once you've met your Tiirak de jour you can then talk to them without loosing your voice.

Patpong isn't that bad, if they would only relocate that bloody night-market! The problem with moving the Nana bars to somewhere else is the zoning. There are no zones left and there wont be new ones, as this will be, besides the real estate deals, the purpose of the whole shut-down. So they might rearrange Patpong. Kick a few out and move the top Nana bars in. At Patpong II and in Soi 4 is still some space left - so talking about real-estate speculations, that'd be the area to invest.

                          Patpong main

I doubt if that would happen MK. At least 5 bars have been lost over the past 10 years to other establishments like clothes shops etc etc. The Main Ladyboy hunting ground in Patpong around 1990 used to be the Patpong boxing ring bar area, i think thats where the fish restaurant is now.

Bet not many here remember the old Boxing Ring....

One other bar is now a Chemist. another a supermarket. .. the best times have certainly left that place although i hope your right in the event that NEP bites the dust......

The only place left would in fact be the other rds like PP4 etc

If they would get rid of this senseless night market (can you imagine what would happen if there's a fire - for instance at Lucifer Disco - and people try to get out and just can't because of those fucking vendors...?!) all those other senseless bag shops (which only take away space in a zoned area) would leave as well and there would be all of a sudden enough space for more bars!

I would spend more time in Patpong also if they got rid of that fucking market

but that is there for the green tourists who think it is cool to do their shopping amongst all the whore bars and then go home and tell their friends they visited the wild side of Bangkok nightlife LOL
