What is a 'long term' relationship?

Well - there have been a few threads that have alluded to what constitutes a 'long term' relationship, so what does this mean for you?

For me it means simply the intention to stay with someone for as long as you both feel like doing it. But if I had to pick a choice from the above poll I'd have to say 2 years or more would be long term for me!

You didn't have a 5-year option so I went with 10; I certainly dont believe 2 years is a long-term anything

  also, this word should be clarified..... I assume that a 'relationship' means that the 2 people are monogamous, correct?  I  mean, any one of us can say we are in a relationship with X, but be screwing Y and Z [squared]  every chance we get when we travel?  and in this context than the object of our affections would probably be screwing anyone that she can as well, especially if she is a working girl. I don't think that's a relationship, it's just 2 people who like each other and see each other when they are not screwing other people.

 I think to be fair the word relationship in this poll should mean 2 people that are committed to each other and only each other.  That may change the way people answer a bit.

Hmmm... some good points. I hadn't really considered all the variables when I thought about the poll.

A long term relationship for two years would probably be monogamous. A long term relationship for life might not be!

So much to think about!

My first relationship, and by far my longest was just over the two year mark and completely monogamus. I consisider that a long time, but then again im not too old!

seriously, I would like to see what you guys think the word relationship means.

I mean, I have had 'relationships' with ladyboys that I like and they like me, but we are always fucking other people. and certainly when I leave Asia for the summer that relationship must end, no? can people still carry on a relationship while they are a few thousand miles apart?

Maybe my definition is too narrow, but I would think a relationship is when 2 people live with or near each other, see each other every day or very close to it, and don't have sex with anyone else. I would think anything short of that does not qualify for that word.

I dont know what "Long Term" is but I almost took a LB for "Long Time" but then found out that she was going to stay 4-5 hours so I just did the same old short time thing.

I'd say 2 years is fairly longterm, more so if your in a shit r/ship as it seems to take for ever. My longest r/ship went for 3 years an was monogamus for the most part except a few incidents on both my part an hers.It seemed like love at first sight at the beginning but we both hated each other in the end.So i'd like to know out of any of you who have made it past 5 years together, if your still in love or do you just tolerate who your with?

If you haven't got to know eachother in 2 years..I guess it's gonna be difficult to continue.
However, if the feeling it's really deep and there, it probably takes less than 2 years to be very well "glued" on to eachother.
If the relationship it's just stretched out of convenience 'cos nobody better is around at the moment, it will never really be a serious LTR and will brak a part anytime for any small pebble that may come on the way.

Dude you should have ditched her arse an saved all the money you would have otherwise spent on her so you would have some extra money next time you go to thailand.Thats what i did,an could get layed many more times in a week then i would with my ex while saving money at the same time.

Actually I was married 10 years and the first 5 were fine but the last 5 were hell. Should have gotten out sooner!

Well now I am a single man I do not intend on having a relationship as I am just enjoying my freedom too much.
