Anyone fell in love with lb?

I know from watching the show on t.v a while back that our great stogie bear has, but recently on my last trip i must say i actually really miss one a lot, she writes emails enough to keep me hooked, At the end of the day i dont think i could settle down with lady/lb as i like to be free spirt, but you never know, has anyone here got the experiance of settlein down with lb. Also i am getting the los blues so bad i am now considering selling up and going full time out to los or philippines, its all down to what business i can do to tick over as i am 31 i would need something to do or i would end up broke in 5 years with nothing but a beer gut. well, you asked so this line may be your downfall!!

  all I can say is be careful. 31 is very young and basically it sounds like all you will be able to do is teach, and while that is a very fine profession the money leaves a little to be desired as Stogie will certainly tell you.  It is very hard for foreigners to be able to get work there doing anything but that. Teaching english to people who don't really want to be sitting in your class for the next 40 years sounds quite daunting.

     falling in love is also a touchy subject; again, be very careful. I have seen many of these love affairs sitting in this chair and most turn out to be one-way deals, with the guy falling for the girl and the girl hoping for a meal ticket, not love or a 'future' like the guy wants. I can't tell you how many times [50?100?] I have heard from guys "she calls me a lot and sends me a lot of e-mails and  tells me I am the only one for her"; and in the meantime I am hearing it from 2 or 3 guys about the same girl!   and she is scoring cash from all 3 in 'support' money while keeping them all on the hook just enough to keep them sky-high with those loving feelings. remember a lot of these kids are players and will hook in someone as best they can; whether the man's best future plans are in her mind are probably doubtful.  I am not picking on your lass in particular as I don't know her, I am just saying as a whole it is quite common. Ladies, just by their sheer numbers, do it even more to un-weary foreigners.

 and  not just ripping on the girls here, what about you?  at 31 it seems likely you are probably not ready to "settle down" are you?  hell, I have 10 years on you and I am not even ready!  You may get over there and find that what you really want is to butterfly every night, not sit inside with the same girl every night watching TV shows you cant understand and getting by on small cash while the things you used to do as a tourist like go out drinking and fucking around are not within your reach anymore.  could get boring pretty quick, eh mate?  But I know, probably not as boring as the long winters in the UK, counting the days in which the sun comes out on one hand.

      We have all been there, my friend.....I myself have had 3 of these girls pull at my heartstrings, but that is only a small fraction of the number of them I have actually met. We all have to be careful; when you are in love you do crazy things that you may regret later.  after my 2nd trip to Thailand and May was on my mind 24/7  I was trying 100 things in my mind that would work to get me over there full-time to be with her or at least half and half; I figured out a way to do it, but unless you have a similar way be very careful lest you end up on the streets of Bangkok with no money, no girl, no job, no prospects, and calling Mum for a 1-way plane ticket back to Sussex.  

     By the way, the deal with May eventually ended; the deal with Stogie eventually ended as well; and in 6 years of travelling and meeting ladyboys I have never seen ONE ladyboy/farang relationship last longer than his did, which was about 3 years. You could be the one to buck that trend but are you really prepared to bank your future on it?

  sorry to throw cold water on your plans, but you asked!  I am just being the devil's advocate here my friend,  and looking out for you; maybe someone else who is less jaded than I am can give you another spin on the matter? just let your brain do your thinking, and not your heart.

You are 100% on this Jai dee, i am not as crazy as you think, i was interested in peoples stories of how it went, i know that the girls a large percentage of them anyway will take you for whatever they can, For me I keep getting the urges to be there all the time, I am highly addicted to the place and if I had the cash without having to sell up i would be out there more to the full time. You know what its like, when i am out there for such a long time i actually get little homesick, but when i am home i miss the place like crazy, i dont know what to do!, I think i may be going through mid life crisis  
I will just have to get my brain back in gear.
PS what happened stogie? if you dont mind i am just curious.

You should maybe go spend 2 months in Thailand and see how you like it. But what ever you do don't just uproot yourself and sell everything and abandon your only home. You want to have something to come back to if it doesn't workout as planned in Thailand.

again, this is a very common theme and something I read all the time and have experienced myself many many times, including right now! Realize that we all feel the same way, man; Ozzie's thread about the LOS blues really hit home for many of us because we basically all are addicted to that country like a drug and when we are away from there we have an urge, a NEED, to get back there as soon as possible.


Your feelings are very common, and it happens to all of us. Just be very careful, and don't sell out lock, stock and barrel until you are 100% ready to be there full time. For me it will be about 5 or 6 years from now, until then I have to make due with the fun times I have when I am there and be grateful that I have at least that. Try and do the same, bank away enough cash to live there full-time and have a good job and future assured for you before you pull up stakes from your homeland.

I know it's tough but in the end it will be better for you, I believe.

Hey Oilbaron,

Judging by your handle you may be in the oil business. Anyway, the guys who work on the rigs get plenty of time off and maybe are on the rig for 6 out of 12 months.

Have met quite a few who live in los and go there on their off month.

Is there a possibility you can reskill to take one of those positions? then you can keep the good job and enjoy the fruits?

Hey Oilbaron, I can empathise with the way your feeling, but I'm not letting the little head rule. My plan is to try and get a consultancy job out in Asia, somewhere that only 1-3 hours flight away, and preferably with a Western company, (paying a western salary). China is an emerging market in most sectors with every man and his dog trying to get in on the act so there's quite a few possibilities there.

Daz I know exactly what you are saying but really life is a 1 chance thing, I want to enjoy it as much as possible, i know exactly what you are saying though. At the end of the day can always return here with me begging bowl in 30 years if i live that long! I would have a tidy sum from selling me house but at the same time do i really want to? And jellybean you have come up with one of the best so far, i applied for a couple of jobs in Iraq truck driving but had no reply the money was excellent and a year out there i could have retired and kept all. Problem is for me is quailifications, i only got em in "o" and "a" lol, no seriously if you of any work out in china h.g or singapore i am good at blagging me applications!

I know this guy who actually married a PO LB.  She is beautiful, and although asian, not Thai.  And strangely enough, she's from a wealthy family overseas.  

My friend is a good looking chap, quite smart and well educated, and professionally sucessful.  He's no dummy, and has dated many, many lb's.

Anyway, the marriage lasted 2 years or so, then fell apart.  I don't think it was his fault.  All the guys I know that have tried long term relationships with lb's have seen them end in failure.  I just think lb's are damaged goods when it comes to long term relationships.  I know there are exceptions to every rule, but so far I haven't found any to this one.

what! at 31,  you must be joking.  I think guys have this problem in there late 40s or early 50s. Never heard of this at a young age. Two years ago you were only twenty nine.
Please dont even think this is a midlife crisis.....if it is then youve got a long long  haul .

I think you are just a bit depressed OB1 and maybe need to look at it that way. The problem is in Thailand is that one is spoilt to such an extreme and nothing will seem to compensate

If you on your own it can get very lonely. I was talking to some guys two weeks ago in Bankok and they said that a network of buddies helps if you live in Thailand otherwise you may go crazy .
