Can't you see Tex's avatar? I'm sure he was a fly-half or a line-backer or inside winger or something for the Detroit Tigers...

I think that's what he said to me....

The problem is if you think you will be living the same type of life you do when you are on a mongers vacation, I think you are set up to fail. Hell, even if you could afford going out anf ucking 5 nights a week, I think you would get bored and your life would be unfulfilling believe it or not.

It would certainly help to ave outside (read sane) interests and friends. Thats my take anyway...

            +1 from me.

Without some intelligent company who can help you keep your head straight, Pattaya is the sort of place where you could go into a downward spiral. Night after night chasing tail & listening to the same old bullshit would do anyone's head in.

From Wikipedia - "The fly-half is a good kicker & generally directs the backline". That's in the grand old game of Rugby Union, a game for thugs played by gentlemen.

Remember Tex, google is your friend...

I have never been to Pattaya longer than ten days, that was fully enough.
But what I could imagine is to stay for a while in one place and then move on to the next. There are so many fascinating places in South East Asia, a few month in Thailand, but not only in Pattaya, also in the province, then moving on to Laos, from there to Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines and Indonesia , not talking about Burma, and if that get´s boring there is still India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. I am afraid my lifetime would not that long anymore to cover all this.
But staying in one place like Pattaya or Angeles would not be the right way of life for me,but I have to admit I dont play golf, maybe that might be a hobby for keeping you busy every day ?
For me it is preferable to go there once or twice a year and stay the rest at home where life is also good for me. But this is my very personal opinion and I dont want to convince anybody else.

You know if you lived in Vegas, would you be in the casinos and going to watch shows 4-5 nights a week?? Hell no!! You need some "normalcy" and outside interests so your head doesnt explode!!!

                  BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!!

Thats why I know that I must do some type of work. Maybe not the 55 -60 hours a week but something to occupy the mind and the spirit.

A friend of mine upped sticks and moved to Cebu PI about 6 years ago. Having drunk and shagged himself stupid for a couple of months he went into a sad decline due to boredom.

Fortunately he met up with some people running a local charity helping train kids for a job in construction - having come from that background he was able to make a contribution. He now does about 25 hours  week training kids, helps out with their football  (soccer ) team a couple of evenings and is able to socialise with his work colleagues.

That's not to say that at weekends the D&S doesn't occur but its not his reason for living. As he is financially independent he can be choosy about what he does and when -it works for him so I pass it on. Whatever you choose, good luck to you

Just spent the last 3 days with my boss. I have known him for 15 years and he is younger than me. He asked me about my retirement. Was that a hint?? Really the only stress in my job is the stresS I put on myself. I do like the idea of the charitable work. Here I work on my time with the " ARC" Association for Retarded Citezens. Maybe I can help somewhere in LOS.

I arrived last year in Nov. after a 2 week trip to Palawan PI to consumate my relationship with a 21 year old sweetie ladyboy. I stay in Thailand most of the time in Chiang Mai just doing my thing reading, talking to friends, walking around, and riding my PCX 150 scooter. I am one lucky guy I donot get bored I can set for hours watching the world go by.
At present back in the states visiting my family daughter, son and his family working on house. I plan on staying a year or more next year. This works for me and might work for you, just be sure you will have to money to retire and also the money for your retirement extension of stay. I support two people in Thailand , my self and girlfriend, on about 2,000 a month. She works and we are not extravagant in our spending. What ever you decide just make sure you will have enough money to live on and have a bit of fun. Nothing worse than too see some clown trying to live in Thailand without enough money, we have one in our neighborhood.

Good luck with what you decide.

After spending two 8-9 month stretches in Pattaya the past couple of years or so, and dividing it with a 4 and then 10 month stretch in the PI, my personal opinion is for a short stay of fun and games, such as a month or so, then Pattaya is hard to beat. But, for living there for what would be considered more like full time, I happen to prefer the PI, especially if you stay away from the main tourist destinations, or the largest cities
