Hey Jaidee...think that for the beginning something like the Ruamchitt would be the best to get my legs acclimated to the idea so to speak...then I can go into something like the service apartments while I have a longer look around the country to see where I might like to live....it may be something like the west coast since I like water and sunshine best...though now may not be the time to move unless I'm buying...then the prices may be cheaper from the bad luck they've had...thanks once again my friend...I owe you one

no problems, the serviced apartment route in BKK is definately the way to go but you have to find one that you like, and then probably stay at least 4-6 months to get a discounted rate. The Ruamchitt is the way to go also; it is near soi 15, walkable to the Asok or Nana stations so you can get around the city easily while looking for your apartment. Remember that Asok station now has a subway that takes you north-south through the city, and there are a lot of cheap apartments on that line now, including the famos Huay Kwang area. so basically don't just narrow your search to the sukhimvit area, you have more options now.

Rualmchitt is also good location as far as nightlife goes while you get your feet wet; Nana plaza is 10 minutes by foot, as is the slowly-dying Soi Cowboy in the opposite direction.

A lady friend of mine just rented her one bedroom apartment, converted from a studio by adding a wall to seperate the bedroom from the living room, fully furnished behind the 4 Seasons Hotel ( ex Regent Hotel) in Chidlom for 30,000bt a month, all recently painted.

You can find bargains like this if you look ghard enough.

In Soi Langsuan Soi Saladaeng, Soi Ruam Rudee all great locations there will be a glut of apartments and serviced apartments released in the next 1 - 3 months, those friends of mine in the know have cash in hand waiting as the prices will crash, that includes me too.

If your prepared to walk and take taxis for a few days, check out the internet and prepared to bargain, you will get a great bargain shortly. A sweetener is if your happy with what you find, offer to pay 3-6 months rent in advance, they will practially give you a bj where you stand, in the long run what you can get rent for if you do this saves you heaps.

Also try Sukhomvit, lots of ex pats no longer in Bangkok compared to before, so they are hungry for long termers. Also Soi 16 and 18, 22 and 24 Sukhomvit worth a look.

          >> glut of apartments and serviced apartments released in the next 1 - 3 months,

Why in the next few months, is it just the time of the year or has/will something happen around then.

As I said lot of new apartments finished in next few months and all big capacity.

Have a look at Soi Ruam Rudee 2 new ones in 200 mtrs near Wireless Rd.

Soi Langsuan check out there, and the new apartment block about to open one of the biggest in Bk.

Thanks Mike for the info....I'kk probably use BK as a home base for play and outward reach into exploring the country. I have been to Thailand a few times as a kid surfing, but the worlds changed since then.I'll check into those newer apartments since the time frame is right....has anybody been to the other side since the wave?
