Off and on I have been visiting this site as a member for a couple years and I'm thinking about moving to Thailand. Anyway, would like to check it out for a month and was wondering where a reasonably priced place to stay for that period might be. Doesn't have to be fancy, just clean, close to the action so to speak...Thanks in advance guys

Hi Hula
depends on what your definition of "reasonable" is; there are very nice places within walking distance of Nana Plaza that would be about 50,000Baht for a month, so about 1200 dollars. That is the Omni and your room would be a huge 2-room suite with daily maid service, pool, all mod cons; great place.
Even closer to the Nana plaza is the Dynasty and lots of guys from the site stay there; it's about 900 baht a night but they may give a deal for a 1-month stay, figure maybe 25000 baht or about 600 dollars. no pool and small rooms.
Down Soi 1 across from the Marriott on Sukhimvit is a place called the Golden Palace; it's an ugly green color and the rooms are so-so but the pool and location are awesome. also the price; 550 a night, times 30 days and you could probably have it for 15000 baht or less than 400 bucks.
Up Sukhimvit around soi 15 is another place we always recommend for middle-of-the-road budgets; the Ruamchitt. Decent rooms, rooftop pool, good location, 900/night, so about 27000 baht for a month. all these places have AC; the Omni obviously has the best rooms and also the best cable service.
If you are thinking about a cheap apartment place that may rent you for a month at a discount, that's really not too common; you have to stay 4 or 5 months or more to get a discount. Now, if you are planning on moving there and afetr your 30-day trial you seem to like it, you can get very nice 1-bedroom places near Sukhimvit for between 10-25000 baht, depending on how long you are staying; most will discount for longer stays. If you can spend 25K a month you will have a very nice place; I have even seen 8K places off Thong Lor that were decent enough to stay in {I did one winter LOL}. If you are thinking lower than that, you will have to live very far outside the main areas, or live in ladyboy-style accomodations, IE; 3500 per month for a 1-room dive and share it with 2 roommates.
Hope this helps....thanks for saying hi and feel free to post here anytime

you won't get a place with a hot tub for 1500 or less...... the Ruamchitt has what you need for 900 and the location is very good, ladyboys no problems [I had 4 in my room one night LOL]. Make sure you get a room on the ODD side [2401, 2403, 2405, etc.......] the even side is over-looking a construction project right now.
The pool gets minimal usage, especially now that high season is over. The only place I know that has a hot tub [jacuzzi] is the President Solitaire on soi 11 which has amazing rooms but is out of your price range; singles start at 2700 and the beautiful suite rooms are 3400.
Lotusman turned me on to that place....thanks Lotus!

Hey Guys...this link seems to be what your talking about. Fair price, and it looks like they're willing to negotiate for longer term periods. Looks quite nice for the bucks...

...and they allow 4 cuties at one time...they'll end up taking me out feet first!!!

you don't have to take our word for it or even their website; go back in this website to February 2002 and most of the 2002 season actually; the shoots of girls like Natalie, Som, Annie, Vicky, Anna the traffic stopper, etc, were all done there so you can see the rooms yourself. Now ATS has a bit better budget and we can afford bigger and better rooms, but this is still a good hotel and a great location; I have no problems recommending it to friends. I just wish they would finish that damned construction project next door!

If you are goind to be there for a month you might consider more 'bang for the baht' with a serviced apartment vice a hotel
Many web sites with links to the properties - best bet is to type "Bangkok serviced apartments" into Google and spend an hour browsing
You will likely find just what you are looking for, particularly if you expand your search from the Nana area towards Ploenchit / Chitlom and down Sukhumvit towards Soi 33 / 22 (5 minute ride to NEP)
Good luck and keep us posted
