I'm no wise professor just a guy who's been to Thailand five times, the first trip less than two years ago. There are guys posting here who a truly living the life, 24/7/365. They've forgotten more about ladyboys than I'll ever know.

I'll leave your Bangkok questions to them since I spend most of my time in Pattaya.

If you want to do something different one day you might consider taking the bus (90 baht) or a cab (about 1000 baht) to Pattaya one of the days. You might also consider taking a small backpack with a change of clothes in case you want to stay overnight. Since nice hotel rooms in Pattaya can be found for as little as 400 baht it's no big deal to rent one for a base or even stay overnight paying for two hotels.

There are also guys who post here who live elsewhere in Asia and they might be able to clue you in to the girl or ladyboy scene wherever else you're traveling.

I recommend Pattaya highly, but not in this case. The "problem" with Pattaya is that it is much bigger and spread out than being based at NEP, where EVERYTHING is within a 2 minute stagger.

He only has 6 days in Thailand. Make the most of BKK this time...the extra hassle of thinking about Pattaya might screw up the whole trip.

Pattaya is awesome - treat it with the respect it deserves and come back in 6 months JUST for Pattaya

Every hotel will have a laundry service. Not sure i would trust mysefl to try to find a local laundry and explain what I want done and get everything back!!

Buy new clothes. They are incredibly cheap here. Go to any supermarket and get cotton beach shorts for between 3 and 6 bucks, beach tops and t-shirts for the same, plastic flip flops are from 20 baht up...

Get a bag of travel toothpastes and soaps etc together, bung all of the above into a plastic bag and buy a bus ticket to Pattaya or anywhere.

The golden rule about packing for Thailand...

Bring half as many clothes and twice
as much money as you think you'l need!

If it's your first time here and you are on your own then drink a couple of beers at the beer bars in Nana Plaza first... then after an hour or so as you blend in and get more comfortable you can make your way up to Cascades...

Insist on talking to the mamasan who eber he/she/it is at the time, and buy her a drink first... and cl;early explain that you just want to look first and be left alone.

The next part is an art form and will require some practice - look at all the girls spinning round in front of you, but do NOT make eye contact for more than a nano-second. Anymore than this and you are in effect saying "I'm a duck - PLUCK ME!"

Count your beer chits in the little black plastic box in front of you and don't be afraid to say 'NO' when a girl asks for a drink.

After a couple of beers, you will be largely ignored and then you can concentrate on looking at the babes in more detail...

When you find one that you like then make eye contact and smile - if she is still not sure about you beckon her over...

If you want to talk to her then buy her a drink. If you want to spend some time with her after say back in your room, then wait about half an hour or so and ask her. Offer to pay the bar fine so she can get her street clothes back on and then ask her if she's hungry and wants to eat at the hotel or at a noodle stand someplace close by...

If you feel like you are being rushed or pressured then you are. If you want to get out of a situation then it's easy. Pay your bill... have a beer downstairs someplace, then go back 20 minutes later and start over!

For your first time I would find someone to go with... after an hour or so you'll feel fine with the surroundings, and will probably be wanting to be left alone to enjoy the ladyboys at your leisure!

Cascades is the best place for a first timer to cut his teeth. PatPong is full of gypsies and thieves. Don't waste one day of your vacation there. Actually to prove my point you could go during the early afternoon when the Pike are setting up the markets and the skanks are visible in the daylight!

The ladyboy bars are for Tomcat and the guys with balls of STEEL! I am certainly NOT one of those guys!

I agree with stogie to go for Cascades as a Newbie Place.
Especially when you do it like stogie said and buy mamasan a beer and tell her that you want to have a look around first.
Next on the list should be Obession Bar, Casanova and KC 3 are for the experienced travelers.
One very important advice i want to give you too, don't pay to much for the first time, you will never get out of this when you pay to much for the first time.
The Ladyboys are like a Mob (Mafia) if you pay too much then the girl will tell it to every Ladyboy in the Bar and you are lost, i am not shy to say that this happens to me at Casanovas that is why i don't enter Casanovas any more

Im herea t the internet place near Nana right now. I am day 5 of my trip. Heading to Pattaya tomorrow morning need a change of venue. Thought I would do a shortened trip report. Im not one to kiss and tell so no LB stories from me. I prefer going to Cascades. If you want a good momma to talk to Tacu. She will tell you everything you need to know about every girl in there and I can usually drink 3 beers to her one drink that I buy her so she isnt hounding for drinks for herself. I think the 110 baht drink I buy her is well worth the info that she gives about all the girls in there. She will tell you honestly about every girl in there she has never steared me wrong on anyone of them that I have been with. One thing I want to commment on is Natasha's pictures on this site do her really wrong. She is so much better looking in person and has a great personality to boot. Plus even after I took her out and I went back into Casc. she even would come over to chat when I was with other girls. Maybe she was acting nice cause was always talking to Momma. There a bunch of stunners in Casc. Just go in there and check out #12 and #33 both very young looking lb's and new to working there. Casanova had the usual basketball team lineup. I usually just go there to talk with Talesha she is a real fun girl to be with. Times that I ahve gone to Obssessions was a little boring but finally got to meet Anney. She is way better looking in real life then the pics I have seen her in. Biggest mistake I have made here was I went to KC3 by myself yesterday. What a mistake so boring, LB's are only post-op. After reading the posts it has made me more determined and excited to travel to Nana than ever. However my planned trip this Christmas my have to be cancelled due to work commitments. Hey there everyone ...

Thanks again for all of the advice and the extra tips & pointers. The more I look, the more advice I get. I'll try not to disappoint. Although I'd love to go to Pattaya, especially with all that I've been reading, I think it's best to stay in Bkk for this go round and get the "newbie" monkey off my back. I guess I now have an excuse to come back to LOS again, this time for both Bkk & Pattaya and maybe even some time down in Phuket (1 week in each place - now that'll be an experience).

Having to concentrate on one place to begin with makes perfect sense and Cascades appears to be the place for me. Stogie Bear seems to have this down to either an art form or a science. Thanks for the pointers and for the offensive play by play, along with the defensive motions too (with NHL hockey being in a strike/lockout situation - this'll replace it for me    )

I'll have to try and post a field report on this while I'm there and report on the play by play.

As for the price Pla, I believe the going rate for ST is around 1,500 baht, and for long time is 2,500 baht. If I wait a bit, then the ST can turn into LT with no price increase to LT, am I right??
Is it usually, customary or obligatory to give a tip as well?? About 200-300 baht?? Is this good, bad, or what, since I don't want to spoil it for everyone else.

Another question for all of this ... what about a dress code. I mean if you look like a poor slob, that's what you'll get treated like, right? Is it your basic clean jeans and a shirt, or casual pants with a nicer shirt, or what ?? ... I don't want to look bad, but I don't want to look like a walking ATM with the  PIN number tacked to my forehead either ... being a farang, I've already got the ATM factor to deal with and I don't want to add to that.

How about photos of the girls. Not the real explicit stuff like this great site, but just a few shots of the girls for my own records to keep me warm on the upcoming long winter nights back here in Canuckland. I guess the rule would be to ask politely first and not make it into a big issue. Any thoughts?
