I had a very pleasant time there yesterday; I was the only punter there so I had Alis, Ice, Pooky and Chin all to myself. Alis was in full flow and explained the name at length and various other things as well - there's no doubt that she is a switched on lady and is fully aware of the risks she is taking.

Reading the comments in this thread, I can put a few misconceptions to rest:

1. It is perfectly possible to do some serious exploring at the bar - Ice managed it with me without any problem at all
2.There is a short time room in situ and according to Ice, it's pretty good.
3. The boyfriend is, or appears to be, a very nice bloke - mind you, some of the biggest rogues I have ever met have been very pleasant people!

What fascinates me though are the comments on the business logic or otherwise of the bar I did not discuss the business side of things with Alis, but these are my thoughts :

Remind me again of just how well Club 131 and La Bamba are doing? Could there be a flaw somewhere in their business model of high punter traffic and presumably high overheads to access that footfall? Even with a good position and footfall, it would seem that the cashflow could not cover the overheads and that eventually killed them. Bear in mind that both these businesses were funded by fallangs (as I understand it) and even so, they folded under the presure.

As for marketing the bar, apart from getting onto LBF and other forums, how do any of the bars market themselves? Even argueably the most successful of them all, C&D, appears to use only free advertising (Jim will correct me I hope if I am wrong in this).

Alis does not have access to capital of any sort. She has therefore decided to set up a new business in an area of low overheads where, if everything goes tits up, she can walk away without owing lots of money. Conversely, even with relatively low turnover, she stands a chance of making a profit, albeit a small one. With that profit, she can build up her capital.

What she does have is a lot of goodwill; it is even possible that this goodwill will mean that BMs who, almost universally have had good things to say about her, will fork out 20 baht for a bus ride to and from soi 3... Hopefully some will be able to point her in the right direction in terms of internet use (she admits to being computer illiterate).

It is a chicken and egg situation in terms of staffing - no staff, no punters. But a ratio of 3 good 'uns to 1 indifferent one ain't bad and if there were a rush on the bar, I suspect that a lot of lbs would be summoned by phone and would turn up willingly.

I guess that I find it sad that people are quick to condemn something that they have not seen and compare it with other bars, all of which have failed. Look around Patts - there are bars for sale all over the shop and very few punters in those which are open. You might question the logic of setting up a bar at all, but don't pour scorn on Alis for having the courage to do it and don't question its viability until you have seen it and understood the logic behind it. Who knows - the goodwill might outweigh its location and it might be successful - let's hope so and give it a go.

And to head off the inevitable nasty comments - no, I have no financial interest in it nor am I getting backhanders from the bar. On the very few occasions that I have me Alis, she has never screwed me - financially, mentally or physically (although I am told that I have missed something on the last point ).

I take it all back - please don't go to this bar. It's terrible - last night at 10ish, I was the only punter there with Alis, Ice, Benz, Som and a couple of others whose names I forget.

It was 'orrible. The stress, the whiplash caused by my head whipping around between Alis and Benz dancing, Ice whispering sweet somethings in my ear and a couple of others playing pool, the indecision about what to do next.....

Keep away guys. Leave this cornucopia of lovlies to those who are prepared to sacrifice themselves for the common good.

Made it over to Geisha Bar last night, and was pleasantly surprised by the set-up and team of ladyboys on deck.

Sure it's basically a small beer bar within a complex, but it's nicely decorated, there's a pool table and the girls were all very hospitable.

I think there's a sense of ownership which was lacking whilst Alis was at La Bamba, so hopefully this will assist.

Seeing my favourite Bombay Sapphire Gin on the  bar was also a bonus.

Given the location, you aren't going to attract alot of passing trade, although a couple of passers by did sit down briefly.....until they established it was a ladyboy bar.

Pooky even rang the bell, but was horrified when I explained to her that she now owed everyone a drink.
