 The warnings we have given up here for years are to hopefully prevent this from happening, and yet as has been mentioned before they still happen every day, have for years, and still WILL for years, whether the punters read here or not or take the warnings seriously or not.  Frankly I think the ones who DO read here and learn not to make these mistakes are the smart ones and will never end up broke and broken-hearted, and will enjoy thailand for the adult disneyland that it is;  but for the ones who don't and then get played and made fools of, I blame THEM and not the hooker, who is just doing her job.

the girl who works in the bar renders her service and time, and the guy should pay her for he used her time and availed her service....
she works for nights for the guy, she is not working to play and fool him... if for instance the guy falls for the girl... after several meetings... and if the girl does not really like or love him... or does not feel anything mutual with the guy... then it is her responsibility to tell the guy directly that she can never fall for him....

if she takes advantage of the guy's feeling... for some reason, money, lust, and various oppurtunities the guy could offer her, then she is the one to be blamed...

again her job is to provide some companion, special service or time for her customers, for a night, or a number of nights.... and she should get paid for that....

it is a different issue when both feel mutual.


jaidee, this forum provides a lot of information that could really help these guys, but who are these guys, these forum will not change them from being a human, and since you talked about 'natural', well it is natural for us to fall in love.

whoever cheats, fools, plays, he/she is the one to be blamed.

And please help me out here oh hairy academic, but I have always considered altruism to mean a concious decision to enhance the wellbeing of another without personal gain (and remember here kiddies I am a dum unkultured and uneddycated aussie) so I doubt that altruism is the motivating factor in a consensual business deal. Symbiosis? Where perhaps the selfish needs of both parties are best satisfied by working togther? Sounds good to me.

Thais Know it is bad to lie, as do westerners. They know it is bad to gossip... as do westerners. They know the rest of the 5 precepts as well as Charlton Heston know the 10 commandments. They know right form wrong. Stop condecending and sounding like a Mormon Missionary.

It would seem to me that people who keep talking about a cultural chasm between west and east want it to exist for reasons of their own perceived superiority, or perhaps because they can't or wont try to get past the fact that although the cultures are different, the motivations for people all over the world remains the same.

I realise I have come late to this discussion but had to comment on what Foxee said. I have spent most of my last 20 years in SE Asia, most of that in Thailand and what Foxee says is so true, a lie is a lie whoever you are and where ever you are from and Thai people know that as well as westerners.
