The streets used to be better in the old days when Bangkok didn't close. After all the bars closed most of the ladyboys would go work at bars on the street all night. There used to be Alco Carts all over Sukhumvit & surrounding streets. The markets on Sukhumvit all became bars around midnight. The good old days. Very few of these sidewalk bars are allowed anymore. -

There is still alco carts during drinking hours & a few later ones occasionally, not often with ladyboys. Pre 2014 they let alco carts and many clubs to stay open all night in Bangkok. In general the city was truly rocking 24 hours a day. When the markets on the sides of Sukhumivit closed, the alco bars would move in then many would stay open until breakfast. Often authorities would not enforce opeing hours in bars or the bars would lock the doors and keep going, some still do this but usually only if they are fairly remote or obscure. The ladyboys from Nana Plaza would often work the alco bars when Nana closed at 3am. Check In bar started as one of these late night carts. I'm not exactly sure when Bangkok mellowed out but it was just after 2011 sometime.
Pattaya is more wide open but still is more reserved that it used to be.
These pics are from 2010. After Nana Plaza closed the streets would have many bars full of ladyboys similar to this.
