paultain, it seems you may have gotten tired of the discussion that you've raised.
The minimum wage in Thailand as of June 1, 2008 was 203 Baht/day in Bangkok, to a low of 148 Baht/day in Chaiyaphum. This is the Labor Ministry's rate for unskilled workers.
As for reading the forum, you should be aware the discussion of rates has happened many times in the past - here is a post from 2004: Bangkok Girls, a post from 2006 Throwing your money around and a post from 2007: How much, reasonable rate?. These are just a few examples - and even back on the old yellow forum there were similar discussions.
The point is the market is not "ruined", not all the girls are spoiled and your points are opinions not based on facts.
As these discussions always go, there is no right or wrong here, only opinion. Many will disagree with you and some will agree.

Answer; That's right! But the likes of Billy and I had to pay in the region of 2000 - 6000, there wouldn't be much left to treat a few LB's on various outings, or help them out when they really need it. I guess we would have to mope around the hotel room waiting for the sun to go down.

Overpaying gets appreciation, not 'respect' so I've heardThey think all farangs have loadsa money, and if crazy enough to throw it around ... up to them. So the '500/1500 baht' quotes by rxpharm & paultain are quite interesting.
I know a number of LOS residents (and regulars) who pay the LBs less than I do. But I don't notice any lack of respect, because my friends are civilised human beings ... for the most part! .... who treat the girls well as individuals (not as pieces of meat). I know some who pay more than me. They probably don't need to, but if they want to, and feel good about that .... that's fine too. I admit I have got more selective in when I pay top dollar - it has something to do with living here in LOS most of the year, instead of a 2 week vacation.
I see some customers at SukhumvitRoad stalls bargain as if their life depended on it, and get aggressive, to achieve the lowest possible price. That's sad. Even more sad when it's with LBs from our favourite bars.
And I'm sure the Jap punter paying 10k ST in Obsessions isn't having the slightest impact on what I have to pay / want to pay. This subject always raises some heat. For what?TT

maybe there are someone out there that want to feel succesful in one way, and that being paying less than other punters. and come onto boards like this one and brag about it, and "teach" the rest of
us how it works?
for even how good job a guy has, how good his salary is, how many cars he owns etc, there is one
thing that always put a man in his real place and that's his ability to score with ladies.
obviously there are guys out there that got a kick out of paying "less" to prove to themselves and others that they have this ability.
for me it seems like the longer a monger stays in los and ganging about prostitutes, the more out of touch with real world do they get and less do they understand these ladies. it seems like many expats feel like they are on the team with these girls, against the "stupid tourists".
i can not understand how anyone can enjoy themselves if happiness stands between 500 or 1500 st.
i would seriously either stayed home or gone back home, gotten a decent job, earn some real money and then travel around the world to pretend being someone.

(paultain @ Dec. 24 2008,10:45) will get a better genuine good time than a twat looking for standards, that's got money to burn,
Ive stayed at some fairly grim places in the past and i can tell you that five star luxury certainly enhances the pleasure. One of the luxuries of having a tidy holiday fund is that i dont spend half the week haggling ...burning money.. maybe.. but im not the one losing sleep over it
Sounds like the green eyed monster has reared its ugly head

rxpharm post 62;
"paultain, it seems you may have gotten tired of the discussion that you've raised."
Answer; No! I have gotten tired answering your stupid unrelated questions, as their off subject.
"The minimum wage in Thailand as of June 1, 2008 was 203 Baht/day in Bangkok, to a low of 148 Baht/day in Chaiyaphum. This is the Labor Ministry's rate for unskilled workers."
Answer; Well that was easy to google, on information only 6 months old, and that was only a third of the question. Try to google the rest then.
"As for reading the forum, you should be aware the discussion of rates has happened many times in the past - here is a post from 2004: Bangkok Girls, a post from 2006 Throwing your money around and a post from 2007: How much, reasonable rate?."
Answer; It's not just places you mention, it all through every subject and every post. There is alway a smug punter bragging. Eg; subjects like air prices going up. The money to burn guys, start the jokes... ha ha now there will be less 'cheep charlies in Patt, and more LB's for me. Its right through the forum.
"As these discussions always go, there is no right or wrong here, only opinion. Many will disagree with you and some will agree."
Answer; Yes only opinions and views, thats why you moved it here, but there you go again carefully wording you opinion, again it could just as easy read Some will disagree with you and many will agree
You seem to be more interested in attacking me, than simply agreeing or disagreeing with my views.
From a 20 year old boy in 1980, first started to travel to Thailand till date I have more experience in my fingernail than most of the members on this forum. So don't try to talk down to me. Because thats all you have been doing so far. Ho, by the way what amount of experience do you have? Would it cover 28 years?
It seems to me that you and Kahuna have got a bee up your asses, better you get it out before it stings you.
PS; As you have remarked on the photos, and can't care less about them, I will stop posting them and post them else where.

...exceptional claims require exceptional evidence as my old science teacher used to say. Just because you have been travelling for 28 years does not mean you have a special insight...there are plenty of guys with that much experience on this board believe me, you are not the only one who travels to the Far East
Trying to educate guys how to spend their hard
earned is a no hoper and meaningless ... totally

Tomcat:
I am not discussing this with your old science teacher, the evidence is in the physical participation, and not armchair speculation. And why does 28 years 15 of them living there, not give me special insight?
There are some very few members who have been been way back in the 80's on this forum, but to top me, they would have to been going there in the 70's, and lived there over 15 years. And I'm not talking about GI'' on R'n'R.

I have more experience in my fingernail than most of the members on this forum...
It's a fascinating thread this, but it's long since worn itself thin and is bereft of a point.
There have been a number of members of this forum over the past few years who seem to have confused time spent in Thailand as "experience" and have instead lived in an artificial bubble which has in effect provided them with little or no so called 'experience' of what's going on here. I'm certainly one of those people to a certain extent...
Having reread your posts more than once I'm still looking for one specific fact or item of evidence in them. Your views are your own and you must accept that they will be challenged because so far you have failed to include anything to support them.
Your opinions don't seem to have room for other peoples opinions!
My own opinion (and it's NOT supported by any evidence) is that you have probably come here in the past, tried to change the place into your idea of a nice (or proper) place to be, got burned professionally and/or emotionally and gone home hurt thinking that the whole world has got it wrong and that you've been cheated!
Your musings are welcome but when they go against the grain of people who have had different experiences you could think about developing a thicker skin and not being quite so defensive.
