As Sid pointed out the age of consent in Thailand is 15 - regardless of sex. He is also correct with his other statements.
I don't see the police even bothering with a statuatory rape charge when the 'victim' would be a katoey prostitute - sorry but that is the way they would view it.
If she's really serious then maybe she will take you back to her room thus avoiding the hotel questioning her age.
Otherwise you're probably stuck with short time rooms who probably won't care.
Thanks for that RR. Its seems that the law has different rules for procuring prostitutes ( sec9 par2) and that in the worst case scenerio you could be nailed for taking a prossy at 17. Of course they would have to prove money changed hands so it seems.
I doubt if taking a girl from a bar would be proof enough as everyone should therefore be arrested. Im not going to test it out you can bank on that. ill; stick to 18 and over as i lost the 4 leaf clover some years back.
(LB_better_than_GG @ Nov. 18 2008,13:55) you did the right thing, sex with someone whose under 18 and who has agreed to sex is considered statutory rape. You could go to jail for that and you might get raped if you drop your soap.

Finally a post today with actual words (not just an emoticon). Impressive.
BTW "LB_better_than_GG", can you please stop with posting with nothing to say. It's a pain in the ass for those of us using the "new posts" feature.
Mark, I think you are right, American. However...why would you think that laws in the rest of the world are the same as in the US? That's either incredibly naive or colonial mentality. I suppose safe rather than sorry is applicable so why haven't you gone back now that you know the real score?

Hello Tomcat,
I only just read your post properly.
Section 9 is directed at Pimps/Ponces - those who force/coerce someone into prostitution.
Section 8 is the part directed against Punters. If you do get caught my advice is to pay whatever the nice policeman asks for and smile.
If the girl is between 15-18 my guess is that it would be 5-20,000 Baht.
Re Section 6:- The bars are actually quite clever in that they fine a girl for not being at work - the bar fine - anything that goes on after that is nothing to do with them.
Therefore they are not 'Prostitution Establishments' only 'Places of Entertainment' - though most are probably unlicensed!
The police (and others!) are making too much money out of this business to ever really do anything about it.
The only time they will take interest in a bar is if it does not pay enough money or breaks the law in some other way.
Similarly with Punters and Bar girls - they will have no interest unless they think you are breaking the law in some other way.
Unless this girl is less than 15 or they suspect her of something like dealing drugs they ain't going to take any notice.

You've been banned!
(69billy @ Nov. 19 2008,13:16) Even this form is changed..You couldn't even mention anyone under 18 befor...
Hello Billy,
I would not entirely agree with you there.
When the forum was directly affiliated to A-TS posting pictures of under 18's was not allowed.
I have no issue with that as I believe that most under 18's have no real concept of the implictions of posting naked pictures in the media.
So far as I know it's still not allowed on the forum.
Talking about under 18's was allowed - but the US is seriously uptight about this subject as they seem to think that talking about under 18 sex is to condone it.
The fact is that sex with under 18's is legal in most countries of the world and even in some parts of the US!
Underage sex does happen - not talking about it is not going to stop it. I'm not going to condone it and when it comes to he P4P scenario in any country I would say Think VERY carefully.
Also remember in Thailand law enforcement has more to do with how much money/qudos the police can milk out of a situation than it has to do with justice or protection of the innocent.
