In Hospital with Pneumonia!

(pacman @ Sep. 24 2010,21:23) After 7 days of intense medical intervention, I left hospital this afternoon. I won't be at full strength for a few days but I couldn't see any benefit in staying longer. My lungs were finally clear, I could not continue taking the huge IV drips of antibiotics & any further medication I can do just as easily at the hotel as I could at the hospital.

I didn't walk out in an impatient fit in case anyone is wondering, I discussed it with my doctor & promised to return if I had a relapse. Plus we talked about the value of getting out into the fresh air for some light exercise.

Seven days after arriving I am free. The past two days saw dramatic improvement & if it was up to me I would have left yesterday. I am happy I didn't though, better to be safe than sorry. I did leave with two bags of medication though, 13 different items to take...      

And the final cost? Only 159,433.50 baht, around a thousand Aussie dollars per day. And you still think you don't need Travel Insurance?

   There was no short list, I thought I would take a little time to get some strength back.

However a walk along Beach road late today proved my undoing. Who should I see coming towards me in a little baby-doll singlet & rude cut off shorts? None other than young Julie looking more edible than any girl has a right.

She walked straight up to me, asked me where I have been, took my hand & off we walked back to the hotel. After we had dinner together at Cucumbers where the dinner music is a mix of old love songs. It was all strangely appropriate & I had the nicest time.

Compare that to what I could expect back in Farangland...

The Penthouse has been more than a hotel to me for a long time. There is a real sense of family here & I was very heartened by the well wishes of all the staff when I returned.

The problem with big impersonal hotels is the lack of connection, this place is not too big & not too small with something almost no other place has. An emphasis on customers enjoyment. Thai run establishments don't embrace the pursuit of hedonism like the Penthouse. It may not suit your maiden aunt but it does me just fine.
