  • Restaurants in Pattaya...

There's lots of good information on Bangkok restaurants but not so much on Pattaya. Any suggestions?

I'll start it off w/ one from another member (sorry no street location):

"jua - ali sea food in pattaya near the town hall is brilliant there crab meat curry and chicken salad are just wonderful"

Is there an option to delete this thread? I just found a Pattaya seafood thread (in the Pattaya forum) that may have what I'm looking for. Hopefully it's not all seafood...

EDIT: Just checked it out and it's all seafood (see below for recommendation). Maybe this thread would be helpful for other types of food.

"Marine Restaurant in Marine Plaza.... between 19th hole hotel walking street and VC-hotel second road."

I guess one restaurant in Pattaya I would reccomend would be Casa Pascal (located on Second Road almost directly across from the Mariott Hotel.

Gourmet food. A bit on the expensive side, but if I've been willing to shell out over a thousand dollars on airfare, I guess I shouldn't scrimp at this point). This is definately not a place for the "Cheap Charlies."

The food is conteniental and has been quite good the few times I have been there.

There's also a good Thai restaurant that's directly across from the Marriott on 2nd Rd., can't remember the name. They put on a Thai show for entertainment, the food was excellent but a little expensive by Thai standards.

There is a multitude of restaurants in Pattaya and they range from the cheap ones for the local expat crowd to the expensive ones for idiots. Having tried plenty of all kinds my hopes are never too high these days. Pattaya isn't really a place to eat!

Pretty much agree with SB that the food in Pattaya everywhere is filthy. Casa Pascal is 'gourmet food'? Uh....not unless your standard of comparison is Burget King.

                One possible suggestion though....

A couple of weeks ago I was steered into a place called Max's, an Italian joint on Soi Post Office. I had never been there before and was pleasantly surprised to find it really wasn't bad. Very comfortable dining room, not one of those standard Pattaya shitholes open to the street without any AC, fair prices, and the food was okay, too. Not gourmet,of course, but even 'okay' easily puts Max's into the top five places in Pattaya.

I'm sure I've posted many of these before - buy here we go again

Indian -- Aladdin's (or somesuch) on central road (past DiDi bar), south side, up one level. Very good and 2/3 of the customers are Indian

Mexican - Soi 13/4 Blue Parrot -- strange mexican, but good

Seafood - 2nd Street and 13/4 -- outdoor place; or off walking street past Anglewitch

                  Chinese - JW Mariott , $$$

French - Ma Maison on Soi 13

Festival Garden (?) / the Big C on 2nd Street and Soi 2 -- some good Thai and a lot of chain restaurants. MK, Fuji, etc...

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Seems like there's a real need for some good restaurants in Pattaya. Too bad I'm not in the business.

                      Why do you think that?

I would guess the vast majority of foreigners in pattaya are either on cheap 2 week package tours or retirees living there on a small pension. Hardly goos target clients for an up market restaurant

There are plenty of fine dining restaurants in Pattaya and typically at prices that are relatively cheap for what they offer.

Some examples to add to the list:-

Bruno's (on road between Pattaya and Jomtien) - European fine dining
Indian by Nature (next door to Bruno's)
Manhattan Steak House - premium price, good quality but not really as good as NY steakhouse as an example in JW Marriot in BKK.
Mantra - new restaurant within the Amari
Grill room in the Royal Cliff
The Chinese restaurant in the Montien is considered way better than the one in the Marriott.
The Chinese restaurant in the Dusit is also highly rated.
The Balcony restaurant in North Pattaya is good, but not really in the same league as the above.
Mata Hari (again on the road between Pattaya and Jomtien is a excellent value fine dining restaurant - $ for $ its probably the best value of all the places I know).

Alibaba's (as Snick said Aladins) is considered to be the worst Indian in Pattaya.

                        Cheers

I look forward to trying the other Chinese restaurants you mention; but HOW can you call Albiba's the worst Indian in Pattaya ! 1) I have had far worse Indian in Pattaya; 2) Its where the Indians eat

I've eaten there many times, and last time brought Oz and LukyA - and we all enjoyed the food.

If you like your fillet stake...You can't go wrong at Tops Supermarket..It's the best in Pattaya..It's one of the reasons I stay at soi8..its near the Tops
Just try it ,only 149bt..OK it may not be a posh restaurant but if you like your stake its the place..
And did you know ..?? You can buy anything you like from the supermarket and they'll cook it for you..
I'm surprised no one from this board haven't tryed it ..
So many Ladyboys so little time..
