  • Best Breakfast in Pattaya!

There are two ways of finding places on holiday that we like or don't like... One is by reading this forum (or the internet in general) and doing your homework and the other is by luck (or bad luck!)

I decided to get away from the office for a couple of days and check into The Lek hotel on Soi 13. I'm a creature of habit so I always go there. One of the chief attractions for me was the all you can eat breakfast and dinner deal.

Not any more though. The buffet is as old and appealing as the sign outside the hotel that advertises it! Potatoes used to be pan fried with onions but are now overcooked buttery mash! The rest is cold and on the verge of being inedible. Fucking shite it is.

By chance I had bought a copy of the Bangkok Post and read the NFL preview column. The guy who wrote it said he was staying at The Dynasty and would be in The Sportsman for a drink later that night and to watch The Cowboys game. (He actually never showed up and the game was a late start so the bar wasn't gonna be open anyway!)

So a short walk to The Sportsman (next door but one to The Dynasty) is where I went the next day for my breakfast.

    Wow! It was absolutely perfect...

2 eggs, 2 pieces of back bacon, big English sausage, grilled tomato, baked beans and bubble and squeak, all you can drink (GREAT tasting) coffee, toast butter and marmalade... 150 Baht!

But what made this special is that you would swear that it was prepared by a farang! It looked, tasted and arrived just perfect. This is gonna be where I eat my brekkers from now on!

With the added bonus of the BBC news humming away in the background, a guy in a John Smiths T-shirt cleaning out the beer pipes and a few pretty waitressess to top up my coffee I was extremely impressed.

The Sportsman on Soi 13 is managed by a nice English chap and there are the usual pool tables and sports events. They also have quiz evenings and other stuff going on during the week, too.

The staff are NOT in your face trying to sell you beer before you are half way through the one you just ordered too. (Yes - I went back there at night to watch some NFL football!)

All in all, a great chance find!

    Their website is here!

A video of their TV ad is HERE!

    Good to know !
I always stay on Soi 13, although the hotel varies.

And right you are about the Lek buffet - the quality went down AND the price went up
( ps. did you also notice how they now make you pay in advance and not after the meal like before )

Yes. I did notice that now you mention it! And they asked in a very unfriendly way, too. Still; the place is very busy every day so they may as well keep their shit food and shit attitudes if they are making money, right?

A couple of things about The Lek hotel, though... the swimming pool is always spotlessly clean and really has a 'deep' end! It also has the most reasonably priced and well stocked 'mini bar' I have ever seen. The rooms are OK for 750 Baht and 1,000 Baht will get you one slightly bigger.

Just another reason why this board is exceptional,
a review and a great link to a breakfast which starts the day off, not to mention the quasi sports bar atmosphere, good work-again SB !!!
Life is short. Live it well.

speaking of pattaya breakfasts, i do believe i had some excellent french toast and a good cup of coffee at the cafe at the front of the sunshine hotel/residence - i forget the name - 'all day cafe' or some such - and it cost me all of 45baht.

actually i think i had two that morning.
two breakfasts, including tip, cost me 100 baht.

but i'll definitely check out the sportsman next trip, for man does not live by bread alone -- even if it is grilled in egg and washed down with sugared caffeine.

Also i think its Greg's Kitchen on 2nd road opposite soi 6 ,, also worthwhile checking out .

And a place on soi Dianna i cant recall the name ,, hopefully Mardhi or Beefy can recall , iit must be my old age , cause its right next door to the hotel i always stay at LOL .

Yup - I agree with all those choices Monkeyman - oh hang on - it was me who took you to them LOL. The one you can't remember is "Robin's Nest" across from Areca Lodge hotel on Soi Diana.

I do recall suggesting young Stogie try the Sportsman before he arrived at the Lek, but he may have forgotten that.

                  Cheers

When I am in Pattaya and want a "healthy" breakfast without those "harmful-artery clogging eggs" I go to AuBonPain in the Royal Garden Mall. There I have 2 croissants with bacon, coffee and orange juice. Their croissants are huge and they are very generous with the good "healthy" bacon.

Yep, and croissants are low fat too....

Everything that tastes good is bad for us....except ladyboy dicks...maybe
clog some other parts, but never your arteries...

A nice breakfast to be had is just next door to "The Queen Victoria Inn" soi 6, its also has a open frontage so good for people watching. Bacon, Egg, Sausage, fried Potatoes & Baked Beans, Toast & Jam, Tea or Coffee all for 95 Baht. It is named "Jimmy Mac's"

If at first you don't succeed, Skydiving is not for you !
