I just spent a week in the International House, on Soi Paradise.

It was my second stay there. Last year, after a week at The Place to Stay, I decided to extend my stay another week in Phuket, rather than moving upcountry, as I was having the time of my life. Tom was full and referred me to this place, and the then-manager took great care of me and my girl, and we had a lovely stay.

There have been some recent reports about the place, and it does indeed have impressive rates in the low season. Though I worked out a good rate for my return, my subsequent experience was mixed.

There is a new manager, Patrick, Swiss, who is involved with the other employee, the cleaner, Araya. Neither of them specialize in hospitality, but sometimes that comes with the territory in guest houses.

Beyond the minor annoyances, which were several, my main beef was that Araya, without fail, knocked on the door every day b4 1pm, solely preoccupied with getting her laundry to the delivery service, with no concern for the guest's schedule or comfort. That might have been more acceptable if her cleaning skills were up to snuff, but the place had the cleanliness of a hostel, everyday, despite a tip on the bed.

I could go on, and I've been told that another BM who recently stayed there had a similar experience, but I just want to forewarn that the photos no longer apply, and only stay there in low season if you get the best rates.

    Cheers.

Anyone familiar with Lamai Hotel? A gg is recommending it for me, it's across from Tristan or Tritan massage.

A farang friend recommended it to me, but I've not stayed there. Dumped my previous choice (The Aspery)- now they've introduced a 500 baht joiners fee.

Stayed at the Yorkshire Hotel recently, and booked again for July. Location 100% (and it even gets a good Trip Advisor rating)

I really love their superior room. But I've never found the staff particularly warm and friendly. In Phuket I'm usually a one LB man, but even so, running the gauntlet through that reception is less than enjoyable.

Thinking about trying the Summer Breeze on the next go . . .

Summer Breeze is a very friendly place but needs booking early, it's very popular. The Summer Suite is a big hit, and most people don't have an issue with the stairs. The night man will even warn you that you have a LB!! (purely out of concern for your welfare, no malice intended)

YI seems to be fairly busy at the moment- JD just stayed there so his comments may be relevant. 2 gorgeous girls by the pool today- not a single tattoo between them
I couldn't give a shit how long it is until you're next holiday- I live here

It is Christin Massage, the big fishbowl soapie in Patong

There are 2 places owned by the same people very close to each other - Lamai Inn and Lamai Hotel. They also own Lamai Apartments, but that is in a different location.

I went to have a look last time in Phuket, but never stayed there. The price is about right for what you get - budget accommodation, but the rooms were fine. Safes at reception, not in the room.

But they are bloody useless at replying to e-mails, which is why I did not stay.

Its opposite Christin massage - not very LB friendly. Better trying Baipho further down the street.

Ok not very LB friendly is the deal breaker. I'll probably stay at C&N again. Cheers
