  • Wanted: Phuket Hotel Recomendations

I just got back from Phuket, and had a good time. My one problem was with the hotel I booked, it's actually a very good hotel but the location and guest policy made it a bad choice for me.

I'm planning on going back soon and would like some hotel recommendations, my requirements are.
    1) Clean, well run, bug free --- if it got bugs, nothing else matters. I ain't staying there
    2) No Joiner Fees
    3) Good Locations, 5 min walk to Bangla and Beach. I'm flexible on this, doesn't need to be right next to things, but shouldn't be so far away that I need to take a 200 Baht tuktuk all the time.
    4) Swimming Pool -- really nice to have, but I could do w/o if I get everything else on my list

Anyone out there know some hotels that meet the above ?

Sounds like what I would be looking for when I go later this year. I'd be interested in BM recommendations.

If you could add WiFi to that... well, I may even bring my trip forward!

The only three places I've ever stayed in Patong are:-

The Place To Stay, a popular choice among ladyboy lovers and located on the fringe of the gay area in Soi Paradise. Run by an American called Tom who goes out of his way to make your stay an enjoyable one however, it is only a five room guest house and no pool.

Summer Breeze, also American operated by a absolute gent and former Las Vegas casino manager Bill. Only 100 meters from Bangla down Soi Yensabai, no pool on site although residents do have the free use of one further down the soi.

Yorkshire Hotel, recently fully refurbished with rooms of a high standard, also in Soi Yensabai and owned by an Englishman called Paul. He also operates the leisure and fitness centre next door which has a pool/gym.

All of these 3 places are ladyboy friendly with no joiner fees and an excellent choice IMO.

Free wireless access in the first two although not sure about The Yorkshire.

          How I love this forum...

Who really needs anything else when planning a trip?

If Pentire recommends these places then that's good enough for me.

Where did you stay Snick, Novatel?  Would be good to know to cross it off the list. Wi-fi 450 baht a day? WTF. Never do that with so many internet places in Patong now.

Best Internet found was Liontchai 143/11 Paradise complex very close to Place to Stay. You can sign up for a free membership and great for downloading and everything is erased after you log off.  Jimbo resizes at home then downloads there. You might even see a ladyboy or two in the internet or Paridise complex.

I don't require a nicer hotel and normally stay at a Guesthouse that has its own thread. "Candy house"but its a 2 K walk at least to the action, so I rent a bike. For those who want to stay close by in cheaper accomadation there is a guesthouse called "200 Years Guest house" also in Paradise complex and 150 steps from C&D's, it was only 600 baht in high season very basic but had cable, aircon, hot water and refridgerator. Four ladyboys live in the top two rooms. Never a hassle for guests.

Yup - I stayed at the Novotel. Great hotel for those who do not want to go fishing at Bangla at night and bring home their catch.

I've stayed at Liontchai before and had a great time. The one thing missing is the pool, everything else is great about it. Its already on my short list for the next trip.

Do Summer Breeze rooms have balconies? I like a balcony.

I've stayed at the Summer Breeze before. I'm not familiar with all the room layouts but the room I had had a window facing an inside hallway. Though I'd have preferred an outside window and/or a balcony I found the room quite nice and it was not very expensive. The American owner was very nice and seemed genuinely interested that you were a satisfied customer.

It has been several years since my last visit to Phuket. I have no info on new accommodation but one place that deserves a look on the basis of its location is the Safari Beach Hotel.

I was asked to recommend a place for friends going there for the first time. Price was no object but they wanted to be by the beach & close to nightlife.

Plus it needed to be a nice place with good food, etc. I spent several afternoons checking every place on Beach Road, the Safari stood out by a mile.

They have several grades of rooms including a few suites on the beach side of Beach Road that open onto the sand. That was where my friends stayed & they rated the room & location outstanding.

The hotel itself is about 30 metres from the corner of Soi Bangla with a lazy 5 to 10 minute walk to the Tiger complex, home of Cocktails & Dreams.

5 minutes if you are thirsty, 10 minutes to take in the sights.

A nice pool that is the centrepiece of the al fresco dining in the evening, free wifi, excellent rooms & joiner fee - mmm, I don't think so.

Two different standards of room are listed on Agoda, the suites aren't listed but considering they need to be booked in advance, why would they be?

2 years ago, the rooms were 2000 baht plus, Agoda at the moment they are listed for 1263 & 1685 for a deluxe room. Have a look - http://www.agoda.co.uk/asia/thailand...ach_hotel.html
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.
