(Actually it's easier to find if you just go to Soi 12 on Beach road and turn there and walk up
about 200 yards. It's just past the Pattaya Center Hotel.)
All rooms furnished with individually-controlled airconditioning, TV, phone, radio, safety box,
refrigerator with full stocked mini bar, wall to wall carpet, bath tub with shower, hot & cold
water supply.
Now - why am I going on about this hotel? Well - I'll tell you...
If you like (and can afford) the fancy hotels then skip this post and go back to the porn!
Similarly; if you can get by OK in a 200 Baht "room with a fan" then bugger off and leave us
'piggy in the middle' folk alone! But if you're like me then you'll be looking for something
more 'mid-range' and I think I have found one of the best deals in Pattaya!
I had a photo shoot to do and hadn't made a booking so I just got off the bus at Soi 11 and went
to the Nautical Inn. I knew the rooms were cheap so I asked if I could see one. I'd asked before
and turned the room down because it was so shitty, but I thought I'd give it another go as my
budget of 700 Baht a night, or there abouts, was about right!
I looked at 3 (THREE!) different rooms and was disgusted. This place is a slovenly, filthy shit
hole and the indifferent staff seem well suited to it, too! Avoid this wretched place!
Well, I wandered off in the hope of finding something a lot better but not a lot pricier! And
with a bit of luck I did just that. The LEK hotel costs 750 Baht a night and they'll ask you to
pay in advance with a 250 Baht deposit. (Add 4% if you pay using a credit card.) In the lobby
the service standards and level of English are high and I felt comfortable the moment I walked
into the lobby. Now - it's not The Ritz, and there are a few cobwebs about the place, but it's
for the most part clean and comfortable. The rooms are moderatly small, but by no means cramped.
The fridge is well stocked with just about everything and - get this - it's better than the 7/11
store. Yes - folks it's the cheapest mini bar I have ever seen. Bottles of Coke - 10 Baht.
Bottles of beer - 30 Baht. Breezers - 60 Baht etc. Even the snacks and condoms are very well
priced! When I read the drinks menu I thought the numbers by the drinks were a code for another
price! Amazing!
The TV was small and the quality of the cable channels were pretty poor. But how much TV are you
gonna watch in a hotel room in Pattaya, eh? The loo and bathroom was spotless and I felt
comfortable in the room very quickly.
There is no 'guest fee' and they let you take goats or anything that can fit in the small lift!
They have a large clean swimming pool too, (but goats aren't allowed in it.)
Now - the menu for room service is excellent with loads of western style stuff and very cheap to
boot. But why bother with that when they have a dinner buffet downstairs for 160 Baht. This must
be the best deal in Pattaya. There is every thing here that you could possibly expect from a
cheap buffet. Including a 'pick and mix' grill section where you just give the girl the bits of
meat or kebabs that you want cooked. There is spaghetti and meat sauce, braised steak and
mushrooms in thick gravy, pork, chicken, a salad bar, breads, Thai food (yuck!) and loads of
cakes and fruits etc. Fantastic value for 160 Baht. (I got stuffed on the roast potatoes! I had
spuds with everything!
The breakfast buffet is 95 Baht and includes the fruit juice, milk and a good quality coffee, as
well as eggs (4 different ways!), ham, hot dogs, bacon, pancakes, well - you know...
The restaurant is outside but is kept very well cooled with plenty of fans overhead and to the
side. (It also cools down the food quickly too, though!)
Checking out was a breeze... one quick phone call to tally up the mini bar usage and I was
billed and given the refund on my deposit in a couple of minutes.
So for 1,005 Baht you can get rested and fed twice a day! (That works out to about 100 Pounds a
week, or about $170 dollars for a week.
All the taxes are included in the price and there are no hidden extras...
Now - don't go there expecting the Hard Rock Cafe, but for the money (and for mid price
skinflints like myself) it's a great place to stay and very, very good value for money.
I hoped this helped some of you!
