Had reserved at the new Evergreen addition to the Areca Lodge as I'd read mostly good reviews on other boards. Only staying two nights --- nothing wrong with the place: great location, of course, quiet as it is way back from Soi Diana, ok staff (poor English-language skills ... yes, it IS Thailand, but it also IS the hotel business ...  ), very nice pool for the Evergreen. My 2-cents worth: room [Super Deluxe @ 1700/night] just ok --- kind of sparse, black-out curtains don't black out, no hot water today, trying to get CNN and BBC to follow the BKK situation --- TV signal goes in and out, can't use the old credit-card-in-the-power-slot trick, so room hot and humid on return (asked for another card for the power slot, of course offering to pay more for it ... "can not" ...) --- AC works on only one setting, rather slow so room does not cool down quickly.

Heck, for 200 baht less I'm going to the ole centrally-located Nova Lodge (now Centara Beach Hotel) where I get a Superior that opens out on to a beautiful garden with the pool right in front --- no joiner fee, no guest limit, breakfast-optional rate choice
More, More, More ... how do you like it?, how do you like it? ... More, More, More ...

I've been at the Evergreen for the past week, staying in the super deluxe for 1500baht/night.  My room has blackout curtains that work quite well, the AC control panel on the wall has 3 fan settings (low medium high), takes about 5 minutes to cool the room on the high setting then I set it to low once its cooled down to reduce the noise.  Never had an issue with the hot water, plenty of pressure and heat.  Agree with the TV channels dropping out.  The Internet connection in the rooms but can be very slow at times.

Good for you, 'TopDog' Oneupmanship and coming to the defence of hotels --- THAT is what a board like this should be all about ...

Not sure I understand Pilos - are you upset at TopDog because he's having a different experience than you did at the same hotel, or are your comments meant to be humorous but didn't translate well to the written page?

Or, is there another subtext here - that perhaps you think TopDog isn't being genuine and has ulterior motives for posting his comments?

Would love to understand as your comments seem rather confusing.

No problem!  I figured someone who couldn't figure out how to change the fan settings on an AC control box and didn't understand that you needed to close the curtain to block out the light could use some assistance in writing a proper hotel review.

I stayed at the Evergreen in March and loved the place. Ironically, I would have stayed at August Suites, but they didn't bother replying to my emails. I had no problem with the A/C in my room , but did notice that the curtains took some 'arranging' to ensure coverage. The staff were great and the food good, laundry was fast and efficient...it even had a reasonably-priced minibar ! The pool is one of the better ones I've encountered in Pattaya. I did note that the hotel seemed to be built more substantionally than others - no noise overspill from adjacent rooms !

i stayed at both properties as well and I think the service and rooms are nicer at AS but the location hands down is better at LK. Also the breakfast sucks at AS and is better in LK
cant beat that great Soi Diana location

Hey guys I am going back in October and staying in LK Ren as opposed to August. I got a rate of 2300 all in a night. I like the LOCATION much better on Soi Diana next to my second favorite tranny bar in the world (EZY is number one)--Pook Pool Swan Bar or whatever it is called on Soi Burkhao. I love the chicks there and the atmosphere and the price point works but it gets too hot in april. August Suites if a nice place but the breakfast sucks and I dont like that Pattaya Klang location too much

on my last visit I elected to stay at the LKR also over the August. I lasted 3 nights and bolted. I too had the 2300baht rate however this is a room without a shower. It only has a tub that you need a step ladder to get into. I truly disliked the room and went back to the August Suites which I like. I am never up early enough for breakfast so it doesn't matter. You can get a pool side room at the AS for 1,500 a night. If you change you mind and want to switch to the AS call and ask for Tee. She will take care of you.

You get the jacuzzi bath and a separate shower in the deluxe room at the LKR

                                (Steff @ Jun. 13 2010,03:51) yup, but it ain't 2300baht
                                 Your right Steff,
I could have got the Deluxe room for 2160 baht per night

This was only a few weeks ago too but I chose the Nirvana Boutique Suites in Jomtien instead for a bit of peace and tranquility with the g/f away from the bars
