  • I know that hotel, and it is NOWHERE

The hotel itself is good (not great, but good), but the location is horrible. Its a 15 minute walk to the Victory Monument sky train station, and then 20+  minutes to Nana. Taking a cab would be even worse. it is NOT within walking distance, not even a 'long walk'.

As everyone else said, get a hotel on Sukhemvit road, anything from soi 2 to soi 17 ( but not soi 3---trust me !).

Also you do not need a tour for Bangkok, or for most of Thailand. The country gets 12 million tourists a year, and is very tourist friendly, signs are in English, transportation is easy, etc... Being part of a tour just locks you into going to places you don't want to go, staying at hotels you don't want to stay at, and being tricked into buying crap you don't want (but the tour operator gets a kickback).

If you want to do the 'culture' thing, arrange a 1-3 day tour to see Ayyuthaya, Sukothai, etc..

PLUS who wants to be on a tour, get seen by a bunch of grannies with a ladyboy, and then be forced to share a bus with them for 4 days !

p.s. if you find a LB you really like, take her on the road as your tour guide. I did that my first trip and it was great, we went up north for a week.

p.p.s. Never use an escort site.

          • It's certainly possible that you are retarded.  Don't let that stop you though!

Really ts, you will find all of your answers here.  Spend some real time (hours) looking around the site - it's fun!  Try some of the areas that have words instead of pictures.  You will learn everything that you need to know!

I hope that you do find a lb tour guide.  I would like to do that next time myself.

            Have a great trip!!!!

Its closer, but still not close. Use google maps or google earth and check the location of the hotels. If they are not on Sukhemvit road or a side street, then find another hotel.

Bangkok is big city, fairly spread out with bad traffic. You want a hotel within easy walking distance AND near rapid transit (Subway and SkyTrain)....and that means staying on Sukhemvit road.

Ohm is still at Guess, Nan is not.

And the best Dim Sum is in Pattaya, in a little place I discovered in Central Mall.

              • Just spent a while going through this Hotels Bangkok forum.  By far the best quote came from dummyplug

I just tell em' that biting a pillow at the Shertaon is gonna be just like biting a pillow at the Dynasty!
only problem I have is that when I get   I am the one that usually ends up biting the pillow   - for this reason I like it to be a good pillow

Over the past years, I have stayed in a number of hotels around Sumkumvit but usually only for a few nights. Of the ones mentioned here, I would agree with rxpharm that the Grand Business Inn is the best I have stayed in as judged by quality of the 'looms', service, , lb friendliness, etc. (Note to Moderators: Is there anyway that this forum could be broken into subforums on the basis of price/star rating - a lot of the BMs are out on my league with regard to what they are willing to pay!! Some other criteria could be 'distance from the action'; facilities; internet connections; etc.)

Right now, I am looking for somehwere to spend a couple of weeks in July and, as I will be there for a while, I would like some 'creature comforts' like a pool and spa without it costing the earth. Has anyone stayed recently in the Bally's Studio Suites in Soi 20? Any reports would be greatly appreciated.

                All the best

                  • Possible business trip to BKK on the horizon. We have corporate relationship with Furama chain and I see there is one conveniently located quite near Nana. Does anybody know if this hotel is LB friendly?

Don't worry, it only seems kinky the first time

                    • I've been working my way through this thread with interest, but I have one question. I found the Hotels.co.uk site which is quoting some very competitive deals for hotels that are apparently 'guest-friendly', but require a guest name when booking a room. I'm not clairvoyant and don't intend sticking to one guest...is there a 'work-around' for this sort of question on sites ? I did see it mentioned, but can't find the post again.

                      • Lboom was right. A little organization on this thread would help. Maybe if we all hit these points:

                        Name of hotel:
                        Location:
                        Price:
                        Opinion of value:
                        Noteworthy comment:
                        Date stayed:

Then we'd have a better log of things. I am trying to figure out if it is better to book directly or use an online agent.

It doesn't matter what you put in as a guest name. I know that sometimes the field is required, though. I usually just put "---" and if it doesn't accept that, just repeat your own name.

Nice new rooms, but small and a bit overpriced, in my opinion.  For a little less cash, you get an equal room (plasma TV, Internet, etc, also small, though) at Paradiso Boutique Suites at the corner of Suk and Soi 10.  1500 baht/night.

If you want to save some cash. down at the end of Soi 8 (500 meters down) is Royal Asia Lodge.  The rooms there are a bit older but still not low budget, huge room, big fridge, there is a pool on the roof and breakfast included, you can usually get it for 1000 baht.  Far, far better than what you get on Sukhumvit for 1000 baht. Friendly to all guests (you can leave their ID card or not) and there is free 24-hour tuk-tuk to/from Sukhumvit, just call them from the call box across from Aviva Massage (after a 2-hour session with Nat, you'll not want to walk!) and they will be there in 2 minutes.

Thanks EyeMahk for your reply - I'll try that if presented with the option again. Do you have any recommendations for a Sukhumvit hotel with a pool around the 2000 Baht mark - not too old or seedy ? The Dawin looks to be the obvious choice, but Legacy Suites (any thoughts, anyone) are doing a 20% off deal and several others look tempting.

Guest-friendly, of course ! Thanks for any input.
