  • I was just booking my trip for Jan and discovered Omni Tower is no longer part of the Ascott group. Appologies if it has been mentioned before but there now part of some Compass Group. Couple of other well known hotels there as well. Presdent Solitare looks reasonable but a bit too far from the action for my liking. I like a nice 5 minute stroll to Nana, maybe getting side tracked by a couple of beers in guess. Also can't beat Fucking Nan on the Balcony at 2am on the 34th Floor. What a view.

    • In case anyone is interested The Dawin has opened on Soi Nana on the left just past Soi 6. This is owned by the same group that run The Dynasty hotels.

If anyone has stayed there yet, I'd love to hear a rundown.

      • Thanks for the info on the Narai Hotel. I'm a first-timer and I'll be staying at the Narai during sex-marathon

        • I will stay at Majestic Grande this time (with wifey).
I hope what RR said about 5-6 unsecured WiFi hubs is still true!

I can't go to Adelphi because they would probably greet me with "welcome back Sir!"

In the cheap range there's majestic suites (like a 2 Star), if I was mongering alone, I would go for DIG (like 3 Stars) or Adelphi again (4 Stars, it is nicer than DIG).
DIG's furniture is a reason why I wouldn't bring my wife there.

Any other advice on hotels/suites which are 4 star standard, are near the action and provide free broadband internet?

          • Manarak, consider my favorite hotel - Grand Business Inn - Sukhumvit Soi 11. It is about 10-15 walk from Nana Plaza, another 5 min to Guess.

Here is the website: Grand Business Inn

It does not have a gym or pool, but the room amenities and furniture are quite good, DVD, Sony TVs, free hi speed internet via room net work ports. Free Wifi in lobby (but you need a password - for hotel guests only), free workstations in lobby for hotel guest use. Reasonable prices.

It's definitely in the middle of the action.  Do you pick up a lot of the outside noise in the rooms?

              • The lower rooms (floors 1-4) that face directly onto Soi 11 can get a bit noisy, the other rooms in the centre and back of the hotel are quiet. For the non-smokers there are 2 floors with smoke free rooms - never been smoked in at all - a big plus for us non-smokers.

If you plan on trying out this hotel, book well in advance - it is very popular with Asian Business travelers.  The Grand Business Inn has been running at around 90 - 95% occupancy even during these recent political problems.

                • Thanks for the grand business inn advice.
This is also a good value deal, however the decoration is not 4 star.

i arrived in bangkok at 11.30 pm and all larger hotels were fully booked, luckily i came upon this gem. A newly renovated hotel above a small bar, rooms have plasma TV high speed connection and look classy.
Best bit of all is the card operated side door and lift, so you do not have to meet anyone on way to room

Price is 1850 Baht incl bfast, a bit pricey but i would go back.
                    Looks good:

                    • I stayed at Grand Lucky Hotel booked from Latestays.com (see my Post #421 in this thread). It is situated less than 5 min walk away from NEP on the other side of Sukhumvit - Soi 3/1. From what I observed, this seems to be the Arabic and African area of Bangkok. The hotel itself is like many other new small hotels springing up in Bkk and Pattaya. Modern furnishing, clean, free wifi, flat screen tv with dvd player for only 1200bht/nite.

Both LB and GG friendly. Just hand over ID and you're on your way up in the lift. 8 floors only and 4 rooms per floor so not much noise from banging doors or people talking loudly in the corridor. I had a very nice time staying there (3 nights) and think it is a very good deal. Obviously its not going to be for everybody but suits the person who wants value for money, just needs a bed and shower, with clean white sheets and towels, free internet connection and helpful, friendly staff who don't hassle you about the guests you bring back. One night when I could not be stuffed to send my guest down, the front desk clerk called to make sure it was ok before letting her go.

The downside to this place is there is a mosque nearby so the call to prayer can be heard sometimes. I don't know what times these are but I did hear it the first morning I was there.

Photo 1 is bed and bathroom, 2 is facing the other way, 3 is looking at the back of Gullivers from the window.

I know its so wrong, but it feels so right!

                          • Stewart, read a review of this place on another forum - while the room appointments are nicer than Dynasty, the standard room sizes are much smaller than DIG - 27 sq. m.

He felt it wasn't worth the value, except for possibly the suite room.

Hopefully one of the bms here will post their own experience.
