  • Great News (maybe?) ...a new type of Toursit visa is in the pipeline !!! :)

According to "The Thaiger" news agency as of yesterday...the PM is seriously considering a new tourist Visa with the following requirements:

It's a 90 day visa and is renewable TWICE for a total long stay of NINE MONTHS !!!
U WILL have to go thru a 14 day quarantine at your expense...typically in a hospital designated by the Health Minister...but there are SOME choices for U ...
As of yesterday it was not determined if U will have to obtain the initial 90 days from aThai Embassy prior to arrival ...
There also was some talk about whether or not health insurance would be a requirement during your stay.
And finally...it looks like this is an experiment to revive the economy and IF it passes will come under review next October for analysis and further tweaking.

It seems the PM has come to his senses re: the true value of tourists and his thinking is moving in the right direction now

The government understands that they must try something or the unrest that is going on with the student demonstrations will spread to all those who have lost their livelihood from the lack of tourism.

They need to get away from the 14 day quarantine and go the Iceland route - tourists from low risk countries do a test on arrival, and if they are negative can tour as they please. If they are positive they must quarantine at a government site. This is all at the tourists' expense. They were already talking about tourists needing travel medical insurance, so there is no need to ask for special COVID 19 coverage, in addition to the regular travel medical.

Thai cabinet approves long-stay tourist visas amid plans to reopen

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's cabinet on Tuesday approved visas of up to 270 days for long-stay tourists as the government prepares to reopen to foreign visitors from as early as next month to help support a key sector battered by the coronavirus pandemic.

Visitors will be able to extend a 90-day visas that cost 2,000 baht ($64.14) two more times, deputy government spokeswoman Traisulee Traisoranakul told a cabinet briefing.

The government aims to allow foreign visitors from low-risk or no-risk countries to visit the country from next month, Yuthasak Supasorn, governor of the official Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), told Reuters.

"I want to see this happen quickly. I will try to do it in October or the fourth quarter at the latest," he said.

Depends on the country. Colombia which is #6 in number of covid19 cases plans to completely reopen to international travel on September 21. I guess they figure, why not? It’s not like it can get much worse. The countries with very few cases are the most paranoid about it.

If you need to stay 14 days in quarantine, then a "transit" visa of 30 days is not enough. What's smart in this operation is that such a visa will select tourists with higher budgets, those who can pay for a quarantine and keep average bakpackers at home.

mo beddah wait for the vaccine. Only 8-10 more months I am guessing. probably will take even longer for the bars and tourist-related businesses to recover. Stay home and watch porn on my TV hooked up to my desktop computer with HDMI wires.
