  • Review of Thailand Scams

    https://travelscams.org/asia/common-...cams-thailand/

Never ever trust anybody whenever and where ever you travel. I laugh when I see white couples wear their gold rings when they travel. I always carry outdated credit cards in my wallet and never carry them with me. I use cash always and carry them in my front pants pocket, in a pouch inside my pant lining, or in a fanny pack in the front. Nobody dares to stand close to you from the front. Credit card is used to pay the hotel bill when I arrive or I pay before I arrive to get a better rate like the Novotel Sukhumvit 4 Hotel. Pattaya's Sunshine Hotel prefers that you pay when you arrive so have your cc ready. After that the cc's will stay in my hotel safe. There have been some stories where hotels will store your passport and valuables in their big safe. When you go on a boat trip they steal the cc's and shop like mad. Just before you return they replace your cards in your pouch. Shocking bill comes later. I'm sure rohypnol is used in Thailand just like in Rio. I never drink from a container that has not been opened in front of me. Beer or water. Safe to say even though I love forking Thai girls and boys I will never trust them or fall in love. I hate thinking later on I shoulda or coulda. After I returned home I got two dates saying they are short of money and starving. I told them NO. Go work for their money like I do. Funny if you think these scams happen only because they are poor. It happens even in the USA and all over the world.

Go to Thailand but go with both your eyes open.

This just got published today. Poor schmuck should not have even brought a Rolex. Funny to say but I never go to the bathroom without my date. I will pull her into the room with me where they can watch me piss. Even funny to watch them use the toilet by standing on the toilet rim and squatting to do their smelly business. Real hillbillies. There are way too many little things to steal. Even had a bottle of mouthwash stolen and then a bottle of suntan lotion. Stupid little brains. Later I revisit their bar and yell at them in front of their Mamasan. They cry and disappear after that never to be seen again. Wacko culture.

Here's more. Everybody who has never visited Thailand should spend a lot of time reading these numerous sites. I have avoided a lot of trouble because I prepared well.

Intelligent search from Bing makes it easier to quickly find what you’re looking for and rewards you.

Either you are pessimistic or American credit cards are not enough protected. I stopped paying my hotels with cash but none of my hotels have seen my CC for 3 years. I use a registration service and I just nned to show my passport when checking in. My CC is so much protected by safety procedures that I can't use it myself. Every time I want to purchase something using Internet, they send me a confirmation code on my phone. One of my banks doesn't want me to change my phone number to receive confirmation codes when I am in Thailand or in another country. I use it mainly to withdraw money. My second bank is more flexible but they don't allow me to withdraw big amounts of cash. I can change my phone number and every time I use my CC, I receive a SMS to warn me so I can ask them to delte the operation and cancel my CC.

A few of your articles describe fairly usual scams. The main tip is : do not accept any offer from someone and moreover do not let anyone tell you what you have to do. This also means, don't let unknown people ask you what you are planning to do. You must be firm to tell them it's none of their business.
Another tip : don't trust a guy just because he's a farang or country fellow. He will use his white skin as sure as Thai men use their officials look.
You need to know what you want to do or purchase, have an idea of where you get it and how much is the price.

You can't control everything unless you want to become paranoid. Don't expect to make the best deal either you purchase a trip or a ladyboy's services. You might sometimes pay a higher price and get a lower quality. But whatever happens, keep the control on what you do.

I do use my cc to pay for my Pattaya hotel because they require payment on arrival. After that I always check my online cc charges weekly just to be sure. I did use cc to pay for my stay at Novotel Sukhumvit 4 because it is cheap if I pay beforehand online. After I return from Thailand I always call my cc company and ask them to renew my cards with new numbers. Thailand being a corrupt country is full of internet scammers who can somehow invade hotel websites or such like somebody did Home Depot and Target stores in Honolulu. Could be Nigerians or Russians and not Thais. Pays to be pessimistic and careful. Just like James Bond. Trust no one and fool them into trusting you.

That's why I never negotiate a price above B1K. I will say let's start at that price and let's see what you can do to get a nice tip. That makes them work harder. I have thrown several smucks out my hotel room because they lied to me. In the past I have done the same to some good-looking LB's who have appeared on online porn sites. Trouble is they have grown too old and bored with the profession or developed total ED from years of female hormone drugs. Have halved their prices a few times.

I don't think I'm paranoid. Just super careful and prepared for scams every hour anywhere I go. Even here at home. Funny I just subscribed to LadyboyGold.com last month. Their charge showed up correct in my monthly paper bill BUT there's another charge a penny less than the first one shown 3 days latter. I know LBG was the last and only online porn charge for January. I have sent 3 emails to IMBCustomerService.com in the last 2 days. If no reply I will write my cc company to nullify the questionable charge. I may have caught a scam with this website.

It pays to be suspicious and always check your cc bills and be suspicious of anybody who knocks on your door. Makes me feel good to be prepared and ready. I already changed my cc because of this. It's good to change your cc's at least once a year and after each trip abroad when you use your cc's. Here's a tip. I carry expired cc's in my wallet plus a few bahts and coins just to fool thieves. So many ways you can protect yourselves as travelers.

I have been to Thailand 28 times and never been scammed or robbed.
          (Except by bars in Nana)
Don't carry a wallet or if i do, it has one card in it.

As P & G says many scams are the same everywhere and you just have to watch yourself and your stuff.

I have never meant you might be paranoid George. I just gave apiece of advice to everyone reading my post : keep the control on what you do, but don't become paranoid (since you can't control everything). When you get an airline ticket, a trip, a ladyboy a restaurant, a shirt or whatever, you can't always get the best service for the best price at any time.

Regarding CC, it's a fundamental to check every month (we here get a bank statement every month and we can check our operations on internet). Having worked in audit when was a student, I do it fairly easily and like an auditor. However, we have here very secured CC. What you describe fits with CC hackers in the early 2000s or in the 1990s. When I had been in Malaysia in 2014, I met a fellow countrywoman who had been hijacked her CC several times. I took the habit of checking behind ATMs (those in malls that are connected to plugs in walls) that wires are not derived to a PC. I also learnt about skimming methods. Hotels don't know my CC, all they have is an order from a company like booking.com .

For those who've already been in Thailand as a tourist or as a monger, I think there are more subtle scams around the corner. Here is a video dealing with those scams.

In this video, they say you also need to be careful of westerner scammers. I had also found an advise about it in Bangkok .

You need to be careful about advises in forums like this one. Yes. I am not telling that George or someone else is a scammer but I sometimes read strange advises in forums.
The most common one is mongers offering to be your Wigman. This is typically the monger version of guide-phee. If you feel you need a wingman, you can ask one in a forum, but usual observers will notice that the same BMs always volunteer to be the one and they bring the guys to the same bars (owned or managed by other BMs).
Just imagine CragR becomes my wingman. He likes expensive hotels and spending money in drinks partying in bars. I prefer the freelance scene, I travel once a year and prefer to manage my money to stay a longer time that i share between tourism and p4p. What would be a normal bill for him in a bar in Bangkok would look like a nearly scam for me. Just imagine the opposite. CragR would have the feeling I avoid interesting places for him. It's better to exchange in a forum or in a non p4p bar and then each one his own way.
