  • Favorite spot for R & R?

I've been to most of the islands in Thailand and was wondering what you guys think is the best place to chill out and catch some rays in between sexcapades.

a place were you can maybe bring an lb -relax, swim, read have a few beers without a lot of families and backpackers but still a bit of life.
Does such a place exist, especially in the high season?

    ko tao is out
    ko pangan is out
    ko samui is out

    ko samet- maybe
    ko chang - maybe

    any suggestions?

And, of course, so is Hua Hin; but regardless, Hua Hin gets my vote, too. The place has a little class, in its own way, which is more than you can say for most of the alternatives.

I was not thrilled with Ko Chang.

I like bringing ladyboys to Ko Samet.  The Ban Phe ferry is only about 75 minutes or so from Pattaya.

Less people during the week; more crowded on weekends.

But you will probably be miserable unless you stay at a nice place.  When you travel with a ladyboy you want a comfortable place for sex and the cheap places on Samet are NOT comfortable.

i recommend the Deluxe Cottages (not Superior Rooms you will be disapointed) at Sai Kaew Beach Resort (not Sai Kaew Villa).

The Sai KaewBeach Resort is really two different hotels with the Superior Rooms a very bad deal and the deluxe cottages, slightly more expensive but a very good deal.
Nice outdoor showers.  The bad reviews are coming from people staying in the Superior Rooms.  Hotel restaurant for the free breakfast buffet only.  At night eat at the Ploy Talay right on the beach, no chairs.

Best price by booking thru Agoda, com.  Includes a free hotel ferry but they don't tell you that on the website.

Not really any P4P scene but  if traveling alone try the Bar at the Silver Sands and there;s a chance you'll find a girl or ladyboy; no barfines.  But you should BYOL, Bring Your Own Ladyboy.

Another nod for Samet. PigDogg, I totally agree and it's hard to really add to what you wrote. Samet is a bit of a hassle to get to because you need to go by bus, then boat, then road to the good beach area and connecting the dots can take time and is not always obvious how.  Not only are fan rooms shabby, an AC room is critical to shut out the noise at night! Samet is not perfect, but within Thailand it's about as good as they come for the beach scene and not as expensive as the major digs for what you get.

not one of Arnie's pals are you Dieter?

I would have thought Lonely Beach was a bit too 'basic' for a man of your taste

Chang for me, the Beer and the Island

A chalet on white sand beach, a swim at sun rise followed by a nice relaxing day on the sand.
Following day a scooter ride out to one of the many beautiful waterfalls for an ice cold shower during the baking afternoon sun, few drinks before and after dinner then another early night with a good book.
After three days and despite it being picture postcard stuff you are ready for more of what Pattaya has to offer.

So far - still only Hua Hin fits the bill.

Surin Beach in low season is fantastic, you have the place more or less to yourself, high season it is rammed with German holiday makers.

If you've got the money a stay at the Chedi Resort (20k-55k THB (+18.7% VAT/service charge) per NIGHT) will allow you on to their 'private' part at the end of the beach (yeah, I know beaches aren't Private in Thailand, but tell them that)

Phuket has many 'hidden' places to relax if you take the time to explore a little away from the main tourist traps.
