What's the best way to get to Thailand or elsewhere. I'm just looking for cheap flight ideas. I'm going from L.A. but any tips are good because we're all over the U.S.

It's very possible that this will be the first of many trips.
If so being a member of a good frequent flyer program will save you lots of money in the long run.
United Mileage Plus is a great program. You can use those miles for free trips on other Star Alliance carriers. If you fly Thai or SingaporeAir or other Star Alliance you can deposit those miles in your United account. There are also lots of ways to get United miles without flying by signing up for credit cards, Netflix, or putting money with Fidelity or Ameritrade.
Have fun!

Please pin yourself down to Thailand and you will get a lot of great advice. If you are in the L.A. area check the Sunday Times travel section for the consolidators that will get you a good fare. Also just do a Google search or other engine for discount airfares to Bangkok, believe me when all the choices come up you will very happy.

Star Alliance is a great choice....To USA I fly with Lufthansa or and United... and to Bkk i could choose between Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways and Lufthansa ...so I have 5 direct flys every day to Bkk....the prices are from 600 - 1200 ‚¬
The best of all is, till now I never had a problem to fly on the dates I like....
Cost me only one call....must not look around in the net or calling around and have to wait, if I get or not get a ticket...
