Pattaya or Bkk for one night?

I usually manage to get in either a full night or 8-12 hour stopover in Thailand every other month. So far I have done the airport hotel visits with the LBs arriving and charging a higher rate than they are worth - but since I am doing it through the net not much choice or I manage to get into Bkk for the night and visit NEP. I have been reading about Pattaya a lot lately and seems things have picked up since my last trip (1984!!).

I am heading to Bkk on 25th for one night (arrive 4pm and depart on 11am flight next day) is it worth driving to Pattaya rather than Bkk for the night or stick to my routine? Thoughts, guidance, advice - all welcome.....

BKK only 30min away..You havent even see the Nana or the Guess Bar girls..

I only stop at the airport hotel when on a short stop over, saves me traveling for over an hour. When I am staying overnight or longer I stay in Bkk, last time was in Leelas which was okay. I enjoy NEP, yet to get to Guess when it is open and who knows this time. The question is given that I am in town for around 24 hrs do I go to Pattaya or stay in Bkk?

If your stay starts at 4PM and your flight leaves at 11AM the next day then flip a coin and get a cab to either Bangkok or Pattaya...

If it was me I'd stick to the predictable (but more expensive) climate of Bangkok.

Pattaya tends to be a bit flakey and unpredictable and if you only have one night then at least you're pretty much guaranteed good results in Bangkok.

On the other hand - if you just want a wild, unpredictable (and long) night of barfining a couple of ladyboys then flag down a cab to Pattaya...

I would suggest staying in BKK as you will then have more time as it is a little less travelling time in each direction than going to Pattaya.

If you arrive at 4pm you could get some late afternoon delight by either going to Guess or sitting at big dogs in NEP and watch the girls come in and grab one. Once you are finished you could then go back to any of the bars for round 2 and then grab one more for overnight so you have some some early morning activity

If the jorney from BKK to Pattaya was anything like mine yesterday, I'd stay in BKK - it took me 4 hours to drive from Pattaya, thanks to countless 'shunts' where the road is being re-built/upgraded to a 4 lane motorway in each direction. Its difficult to predict exactly how long it will take you at the moment for just that reason. Even in the best of typical daytime traffic (which consists of loads of 30 ton lorries and container trucks heading to and from the container port at Laem Chabang), your looking at a 2 hour drive from airport to Pattaya itself.

Similar on the return - if your flight is at 11am, you would need to leave Pattaya around 7am maybe earlier to allow for the chaotic traffic. Things will vastly improve once its all finished and you would be looking at an hour door to door, but for the time being, its very unpredicable due to the total chaos in how the traffic flow is managed or should I say not managed.
