  • One Way Fares?

Anyone have any experience booking 1 way fares from USA to Asia?

Thailand requires that you have a return ticket, I had a problem once with JAL not wanting to let me board since I had no return ticket. I told them that since I had a business visa at the time that the rule did not apply, and they let me board.

Price wise it almost always better to get a return fare, one ways are expensive ! Maybe you should consider a 6 month or 1 year open return.

I (now) buy my tickets from Bkk-Man-Bkk, so at some stage had to buy a single out which was no problem.

I also had an E ticket confirmation of my return so no problems at all.
seriously pig headed, arrogant, double standard smart ass poster!

PD go with round trip they usually charge you half of a full fare ticket. You could pay up to 2,000 dollars for a one way.

..not really, i was surprised to see 1-way fares as low as $560 earlier this month to BKK via SFO, now getting a cheap return ticket is another story. After further inquiry i was told by an online travel rep that u can't book 1-way return flights from overseas to the U.S. online, so if u have to book from ur city of departure u might end up paying considerably more than an original RT ticket would have cost u.. you'll also get special scrutiny from Homeland Security on your return 1-way ticket from Asia!  Any 1-way tickets coming from overseas get flagged & they will go thru your luggage & personal belongings pretty good when u go thru customs; consider that if u decide to buy a 1-way ticket..

..I have also noticed that if u use the KAYAK website it will give u fares from all the other online booking agencies like Expedia, Hotwire, Travelocity, Orbitz, etc. so u can compare fares from all or most of the online travel agencies right now .. then u will see that each one of these online travel sites has their own paticular airline that offers a lower fare than the others do for the same airline, & if u wait 1/2 an hour & check again the fares can be higher or lower depending on which airline or flight time u prefer..

..now that oil prices are going up faster than a ST in BKK u bettr book ur flight now b4 the prices for a barrel of crude goes over $100; I've noticed the fares starting to go up $100 & more for the same flight i looked at just last week!  I found fares as low as $600 with CHINA airlines and as high as $1200 to $2000 from SFO to BKK just for Nov, so I'm sure they will continue to rise to cover an increase in fuel costs..

..I also found it cheaper to fly to Manila via BKK than to book a flight directly from SFO to Manila even tho most of the airlines stop in HK first anyway.  If i purchase a ticket SFO to Manila it's going to cost me 100's more than if i go the BKK to Manila route... so i will have to return to BKK to catch my return flight to SFO even tho I would prefer to fly from MNL back to SFO..

Check this site to compare all fares

..current airfare SFO to BKK via CHINA airlines is $895 all taxes incl., Cathay Pacific my favorite to fly is $1242 (this does not include airfare from BKK to MNL, that fare for all 3 RT is $1640)
.. I'm not young enough to know everything, and not old enough to have done everything..

I was trying various options on air fares for my Thai trip last January.; checkng dates, prices, etc over time. I looked at one way trips for a particular date, and it turned out to be more expensive than the round trip. Of course it was United, so who knows.
