    Hi guys
Not sure how this works in other countries, but I lodge a lump of cash into my credit card account, Mastercard from a bank here in Ireland. When I am abroad i can withdraw money and there is no charge as it is my own money.

Also I can top up my credit cart account with online banking. Have never see a charge or commission on my statements in all the years I have been doing this.

    Worth looking into.

I contacted my bank among other things to tell them I was going to Thailand and might use my cashpoint card but was told that withdrawals from ATMs in Thailand might be refused for security reasons and that if that happened, I could use it at a bureau de change.

        Hello DrPhil,

What they failed to point out is that equally they might refuse transactions on your card in the UK for security reasons.

I've never had any problem in Thailand with an ATM card.

With a Mastercard I have come home a couple of times to find a letter which says contact them urgently.
If it was that bloody urgent why didn't they call me?

As I travel a lot anyway they regularly get their knickers in a twist and send me letters.

I'm not sure about their so called profiling    so far it has alerted on one transaction buying petrol in a petrol station I use fairly often and a hotel bill in a hotel I have used several times before
