Transfering Pictures From LOS

I am hopeful that some board members will have some suggestions on how to transfer pictures taken in LOS back to home country. I really don't want to explain to customs why I have 400+ naked pictures of "Nicky" on my digital camera, and would prefer to avoid that unpleasantness.

Any suggestions???

It's a wise idea to not have anything porn on your camera or computer. I've heard that if US Customs finds naked photos or of you having sex with young Thai chicks not only will they question you about it they might even add you to their 'suspect pedophile list' and you will get searched each and every time you re-enter the US. They will look at every photo you have and might even detain you for a while.

As for the Photos.. I always FTP all my photos out of Thailand up to one of my servers here in Canada. Not only is it a good way to store them, since the servers have backup and redundant hard drives, but they are out of Thailand and I'm not taking them with me through Customs. All you need is access to a web server and you just need a free FTP program like Filezilla on your Laptop and your all set.

FTP sounds like a good idea since it's pretty secure. I would advise against uploading it on any free or even paid service or emailing it to yourself... I went through LAX customs without a check but only had touristy pictures on my camera.

Why would you advise against emailing them to yourself? FTP is not really more secure than this.

Sure I would use FTP or SCP if you can but if you do not have a server available then I would just use email.

I have never in all my trips to LOS/US etc had my laptop or my camera checked. I suppose I have just been lucky. In fact never even been question about what I was doing in LOS.

Remove the memory card and stick it in your pocket. A metal detector/airport scanner will not pick it up.

By the way - nude pics of your holiday escapades is not illegal... only embarrasing!

I had I similar experience like this coming home from LOS last month , a certain girl made a computer disc for me of herself getting up to some naughty behaviour .
Well I was well and truely turned over at customs , and he takes the disc away to a room to check out whats on it .
After about 15 mins the fat bastard comes back red faced and tells me he couldnt get it to play (yeh right)

I posted this about a year ago, but I got thoroughly checked entering Canada two trips ago.

Customs opened my PC, scanned obvious places for pics, then asked me to show every folder I had pics in. He then randomly looked at them. Legal or not, it is simply not something I really wanted to deal with then or in the future. So I carry zero nude pics now and forever.

We had a good discussion on this, and there were a couple of suggestions to encrypt all your pics using some encryption freeware.

FTP to a server is of course even more foolproof. If u want a simple server, go to www.crystaltech.com and sign up to web hosting for 2.95 / month. Then you get an IP address you can FTP to and from. And it is backed up. You can cancel at any time. Ignore all the web hosting detailed crap. Just pick the cheapest package and basically what you get is disk space. Don't forget your FTP signin ID and Password! That would be my suggestion.

One lower tech way to do this is burn all the photos to a DVD and mail them to yourself by registered mail. If you don't trust the postal system - you can burn them and put them into CD music jewel boxes and pack them in your luggage, after deleting the photos from your hard drive. You can also transfer them to a jump drive (aka memory stick, thumb drive, etc.).

Or even get flash memory chip (say 4GB) and transfer all ur pics onto the chip and store it in a password protected encrpyted zip file and that way no ones gonna see it...

Reckon the stupidest thing ever happen to me at customs was in Japan when they pulled every single bit of my luggage out in front of everyone, including toiletries...

I had a bucket load of condoms just floating in my stuff and the silly customs prick as me "why do you have so many condoms?"

why not archive them into a winrar file using winrar's password protection? (remember to also select the "encrypt file names" feature), then upload it to a hoster like swoopshare. We do it quite often with legal pron. Then just retrieve it when you get home.

..well he's right about customs and they are profiling possible pedophiles at SFO, but when i am in ther age group, single, & going to BKK with a couple of cameras..ka-ching,ka-ching & an alarm bell goes off in their head! So they tracked this one dude, maybe u saw it in the paper there, they busted him in his hotel room with an under-aged boy (not smart!), caught him with loads of kiddy porn & the local D.A. here said they are gonna crack down on that kinda behavior from now on! Well with Homeland Security hasseling u & now this too, it's best to be as low key as u can because i did get stopped going thru customs leaving the Phil., when they asked me about all my cameras & mini DVD's i just about had a cardiac arrest! Pics of LB's on my memory card (nothing as high class as Billy's tho!) & a video 3-sum with 2 LBs from Angeles shot between my BD party & swimming pool segemnts.. well I'm sweatin bullets now, whatda they gonna do next!? So I told him "just friends & scenery, that's all" .. then he said smiling "and no girls?" .. that's when i thot they were gonna check my DVD's, but no he just laughed & waved me thru! Guess i lucked out this time!
