As my companion is out of town until Aug. 15, I took the opportunity to visit Patpong. King's Corner and King's Castle 3 were both open for business last night and will be again tonight as well. The number of ladies was a bit less as some have gone home to visit their mothers.

With regards to Chinaman's computer problems - have you tried to use system restore from the safe mode? When you start up your computer press the shift key and you will be given a menu selection of what modes to start in. Choose the safe mode and then use system restore from "Programs" "Accessories" "System tools".

    This applies to Windows XP.

Guess and Nana were open - if I know the bar will be closed I will put it up in the Guess forum as a standalone topic with the relevant date of closure.

      Cheers

NEP bars were open yesterday (12 Aug) and I expect them to be open today, which is a sort of holiday (banks, schools, government offices) because the Queen's Birthday fell on a Sunday. A lot of bar staff (~ 20%) seem to have taken a long weekend; the bus station at Mor Chit was a zoo on Thursday and Friday.

Next weekend, 19 Aug. might be interesting as there will be a national referendum on the new Constitution, and there is talk about having Monday, 20 Aug. be a holiday to facilitate travel back home to vote.

In the past alcohol sales have been prohibited on election days, and even on high holy days, but everything was open and booze was freely flowing on Asanha Bucha and the start of Buddhist Lent a few weeks ago (29 & 30 July).

Sorry, my lips are sealed with regard to her ID - I promised her not to make it widely known! Needless to say, she is a very lovely and sweet companion - a lot of fun, and of course she is postop!

If previous elections are an indication, the closure is very well enforced. Sometimes, you get some areas where they are allowed to open after 1800hours on the Sunday (19th) as the polling booths are closed but its by no means certain.

Luckily I didn't read this thread earlier or I would have stayed in on the 12th. Bars were open normally, but few customers as perhaps many thought things would be closed. Easy seating in Angel Witch & Rainbow 4, that doesn't happen very often! Only exception seemed to be Obsession packed as usual.

I have a sneaky suspicion that the lockdown will be better enforced for the elections than it will be for royal birthdays and public holidays.

Yes, but this isn't really an election, it is a referendum. And signs only went up today. Given the current friction between the government and the police I expect the police to march to their own tune so they will potentially solicit funds for opening on Sunday (19 Aug.). They've only just begun the informative rounds as of today so owners are still figuring out the cost/benefit. Ultimately I think some bars in NEP will open, but who knows. Should have more info. by Thursday.

It looks like Monday, 20 August 2008 will be a holiday to facilitate travel back from referendum voting. Government offices, schools, banks (but not all branches) will be closed. I assume bars will be open on 20 Aug., still not sure about 19 Aug. but am currently thinking they will be open if they so choose.
