OK, IM leaving to pattaya from nyc tomorrow. I dont have a global cell phone, just a basic verizon cell phone.

Is there a way to get a cell phone in pattaya to use on my trip?

Short answer: Can't use your phone

Long answer: If you have a new Verizon phone that supports tri-band AND is SIM based, then you can take it somewhere to get it unlocked and buy a local SIM card ( DTAC or AIS ).

Much easier to just buy a cheap second hand phone and get a local SIM

There are lots of places to do this in Pattaya, the largest selection would be the BIG C shopping area on 2nd road and Soi 1 or the IT mall on center road. ( BIG C will be eaiser to find if you've never been to Pattaya before).

You can buy a used cell phone in one of the mobile shops located in Big C or the Tops on Central Road where the shops are located on the 2nd floor.

You can buy the sim cards from the same shop - they are cheap and easy to refill.

Used mobiles should only cost around 1000 Baht. Big advantage is they are less likely to be stolen since they are old, undesirables models.

I bought an unlock code on ebay the other day for a new Samsung I bought...Cost $1.99 and took less than 5 minutes to unlock...works fine with my Thai sim...

If your staying in South Pattaya you can also go to the Tuk Com Center on
Pattaya Tai aka Pattaya South Road. You walk a few blocks east (away from the Gulf of Thailand) on Pattaya South road.

I bought  used phone for 25 bucks but that's very low end.

Just steal one from the first LB you ST. Then it comes pre-loaded with lots of girls numbers. It's probably one stolen from one of the regulars here, anyway.

The only problem is that *you* will be getting a lot of interesting calls from energized LBs. Only Bam and Mirimark are believed to be capable of magnificently handling the subsequent drama.

Big C you can get a cheap new phone for 1,200 TB
3-500 TB card should do you!Mine lasted 3 weeks w/300TB card & a one year recharge time,so can just recharge w/a new card when i go back in May!
