(nemrod @ Jul. 13 2006,17:54) Sorry, pals, but i don't agree:I was travelling around Thailand for about 15 years and never had problems with the food(and I eat on every place and every little foodstall I met),maybe you where the unlucky ones or maybe I was very lucky, but this was my own experience.Yes,I agree that generally speaking Thailand is not a very clean country(say as Canada or Norway)but I think it's ok,even for families and older people, because thai people are nice, friendly and polite(this includes that their are mostly very clean people, more than many westerners).Maybe the only thing that schould be improved are that the streets are very uncomfortable to walk and not disabledtravelers-friendly

Again, I would agree with the above comments as they apply to individual travellers or people on business. I think you'd have a hard time trying to see familes/children on there annual holidays enjoying the'cuisine' in quite the same way, though!
If you have visited 80 countries then of course you are bound to know your way around the food and the holes in the side walks. You are more likely to be acclimatized to the food and be more wary of being ripped off etc.
The respondents of the Norwich Union poll are probably NOT people like this however and are more likely to be travellers with families who don't leave the country more than 2 or 3 times a year.
Thailand does NOT offer much for families compared with Great Britain, Spain and other European countries, compounded with the fact that it is farther away, harder to get around and more expensive to get to!
As for access for disabled! Ha - You can forget that ever happening! Cripples in Thailand stay at home. They are NEVER seen out and about in public places. unless they are beggars.
In 5 years I have never seen a blind person or a wheel chair in the streets or malls of Thailand.

The fact is that i would prefer to live in BKK than central London. Some parts of London are crime blackspots and pretty nasty. Ive been burgled three times and had my car stolen twice. .... i dont even bother to own a car now.... no point....
Anyway Thailand is not a first world country so Traffic accidents and food poisoning are to be expected to a degree.... that just the way it is.
the Norwich union have a big agenda and that is that they dont want to pay out for insurance claims but still want your money. They would prefer that we all spent our time in Iceland or Sweden.
Scare tactics! but who cares . Insurance Companies are parasites.

Ditto, TC, but again as Stogie says, we are individuals who could probably live anywhere. We would choose Asia for most of the reasons that families don't want.
Imagine you have a wife and two early teenage kids and you land in Thailand for the first time for a 2 week beach holiday in Pattaya.
Please tell me how you would explain that!!!!seriously pig headed, arrogant, double standard smart ass poster!

How are you KL, working hard i hope.....
I think the Russians still take there families but maybe they have different expectations. If you ask a policeman in Moscow a question you can easily get beaten up for ruining his day.... this is a fact.
Some Hotels in Jomtien are full of Ruski families. It must be paradise for them as it is for me.
I made this thread to see what you guys make of these polls.

insurance companys insure them selfs against paying you if you put in a claim.. thailand dangerous no way , bad food? yes if you eat european or american fast food. sure you will get food poisoning. car accidents?? how do you have a car accident on holiday? oh i know hire a car and drive it i bangkok. silly me. more chance of being killed by a maniac on a water scooter at jomtiem.
i for one am gald the norwich have done there survey . as it will keep the package tourists away from thailand and keep th prices down for us coin constepated people,
thailand is 60% cheaper to live in that australia. so for me it is a viable alternative in retirement than livig in sydney with the ever increasing cost of living.
cheers donnnnny.just a sex tourist looking for hot fun

: Interesting, i would have thought Jo'burg for theft, India for food poisoning, and o.k. ill go with Soi 4 for accidents. Tourist has penis bitten off in Nana disco, police say the ladyboy fled the scene. It's probably all the claims they get from Pattaya. Hi KT it's going ok look forward to seeing you soon
