Being My First ever trip to LOS (BKK) I am not 100% sure what to bring. I was hoping you all could put in your 2 cents or bhat and make suggestions. Thanks.
Aside from Normal clothes (by the way what is the proper attire for Bkk) and grooming items, what else should one bring?
It's fucking hot and humid over there, so dress accordingly. Bring lots of deodorant, wet wipes (or you can buy them there), and condoms (those you do not want to buy here). You'll probably do a lot of walking, so bring a good pair of walking shoes or sandals. If you are susceptible to food poisoning or sickness, maybe bring some medicine - you may not be able to find what you need in LOS with ease. And don't forget a CAMERA!
I wouldn't bring anything too fancy (i.e. watch, wallets, etc...) just because you won't need them and you're more likely to get them ripped off if you flash em.
I'm a rough-ridin', hootin' and hollerin', ladyboy lovin' cowboy! Bang bang yer dead!!!
The LOS is not quite the developing country the west would have you believe. If you have forgot anything it will be available ( cheaper ) in country. I wouldn't worry too much.
As DP says don't bother with the bling, bling its meaningless in the LOS, anything of value don't bring, unless you must. Digital camera's are a must, pictures are always nice momento's & not just the ones the forum likes to see!!

You pays your money & takes your chance. This isn't a rehearsal do it now, it's no good looking back when it's a lover & wishing.... ITS TOO LATE.
Asian Adaptor for western plug to recharge my mobile phone and laptop. You can pick them up in any dutyfree airport or Bangkok Shopping Centre.
Light clothing that breathes well for the humid conditions
Good shoes with good support (when you step off a cracked footpath and nearly sprain your ankle you'll thank me)
Things that make your trip more enjoyable:
Condoms from home that don't break
Lube for the engine room from home
Meds for home (although you can get anything in bangkok as long as you can explain it)
In room safe
Debit card
some Thai words and a smile ......optional
Have a great trip Doc and we all look forward to the pics from the new camera. Tell them your a doctor and you need to explore in the name of research.
In contrast to what some of the other guys have posted; Do not pack your bags with deodrant, shampoo or even condoms as all that jazz can be purchased locally at reputible western owned retail outlets like Boots, Tescos and Foodland.
Infact, do not bother with any hold baggage, just take a cabin bag with a change of clothes and your valuables. On arrival you can then buy a holdall, purchase enough clothes which are suitable for your holiday then take back a stack of gear which you can sell when you return home.
On my most recent trip I took home goods which I turned into £1800.00 clear profit And these goods accounted for 90% of my checked in baggage.
Suddenly that fantastic holiday in Thailand and all those expenses related to shagging LB's & GG's is even better
another idea - What can you bring us guys that live in Thailand, that will assist us reach our decision if you need any assistance on the ground and being shown the ropes so to speak. As a Brit, I can easily be bribed with Jaffa Cake biscuits from the UK, cheeses from France and genuine Sebago docksiders from the USA.
Seriously though I would agree with Pentire - everything you would likely need can be got here and for the most part things are way cheaper than you would for the same product in the west.
Jaffa Cake is a popular type of snack sold under a number of different brands, the market leader being McVitie's (United Biscuits). In the United Kingdom, Jaffa Cakes are classed as cakes for the purposes of taxation, but due to their size and high number per packaging, shops generally stock them within the biscuit section. The name is derived from Jaffa oranges.

Great Business sense there. However, I will be in China for 4 weeks before hitting LOS. I seem to have been running around buying tons of stuff here for the trip. So far spent near 1,000 USD. Perhaps I am doing this all backwards?
(newcomer @ Jun. 30 2006,19:09) Things I can't do without would include:

Great post
Adapter-I was going to buy an adapter kit here for 10 USD. Thats a good deal or not?
Clothes-What type of clothes are okay to wear? Here at home I love my jeans and a cotton or blended polo shirt. Will that pass for okay there?
Footwear-I prefer sandals and hiking boots. Do I need a different type? If so, what type would you suggest?
Condoms-I noticed all the condoms here say made in India or Thailand Should I even buy em here then? What the difference?
Lube-okay laugh but I never bought any ever, so, what brand or type do I get
Debit card or credit-I only use a credit card which is also the same card for Mac (ATM) card. Its a combo card. WIll that be enough?
I was also about to open an account before leaving with HSBC bank to get good exchange rates before leaving home and bring 200USD worth of Bhat and Rembi before going. Is this a good or bad idea?
Thanks for all the tips so far guys. Hope this is helping all of us out
