Airline Advice ?

I'm hoping to make my first trip to BKK in a few months.  I've made transpacific flights before, but only on US, Aussie or New Zeland airlines (including some painful ones when stuck in middle seats in coach).  I see some pretty attractive fares (as low as $600 US) from SFO and LAX on EVA and China airlines.  What has been your experience with these airlines ?  Do they have any decent business class options ?  Any info will be much appreciated.

You got to give me some pointers for the $600 flight ...
I booked the ticket, from DFW to BKK, transfer at LAX, $1397 it costed me.
As for the airlines themselves. My friend worked in Eva before, he got me a free upgrade once. I was almost drunk having the free scotch in HK airport. It's nice, Eva is part of the Evergreen (cargo giant) and the founder is very influenced by Japanese business styles, so the service is just flawless. as for the China air, they are consider inferior to Eva in taiwan (both are taiwanese airlines). I have never taken them. so can't comment.

I've flown China Airlines and EVA Air many times throughout SEA. It's been about 2 years since I flew EVA but they did offer a class just above coach and just below Business. Both Airlines offer decent business class but nowhere near as good as Singapore or Malaysian. The food they offered wasn€™t much better than coach IMHO. When I fly on €œmy dime€ I always fly coach. BTW €“ I€™m 6,4 and 230 lbs€¦ Just grab a window seat and wear loose clothes. The layovers in Taipei are not too bad and they break up an otherwise loooong flight into two very manageable legs.

Goingtosugarland: I found the $600 something flight on their website (EVA), although now when I double check, that did not include taxes, so it's more like $800 with tax. It was for coach and I checked for several departure and return dates in late September/early October. After reading your feedback, I checked their lower-end business class fares, too - looks they they are about $200-300 more for the round-trip. Even with the upgrade fees, it still looks like a good deal.

I've flown China Air 3 times from JFK because of their schedule. But their FF program sucks. If United, Sing, or Thai work for you I'd go that route. But if flying Thai or Sing put the FF miles in your United account cause it's easy to get miles from United for things other than flying.

When you reedeem your United miles you can fly ion Sing which is as god as it gets in Coach. For 60K United miles you can also tack on Bali or the PI for no extra cost.

My preference is
no 1 by long shot is singapore airlines
no 2 cathy pacific and malaysian
no 3 thai
no 4 emerites
no 5 gulf, qantas british air

Singapore service is best i have found does not matter day or night the girls always smiling and helpful.

cathy and malaysian are good malaysian voted last year best airline in the world.

Thai is third due to most flights out of sydney lack flight entertainment screens on back of seats.

emeriates is alwayd=s good but never flown

I rated qantas and ba so low due to the service they supply sucks there attuide sucks

I have flown jal but they do not fly to thaialnd from sydney but there on par with cathy and mal

When I fly from SFO (or LAX) I usually use Star Alliance, so that's Thai, United, or ANA. But maybe the best thing to do is use the airlines you have status on. I'm Premier Exec on Star Alliance and I always buy coach on Asia trips, but inevitably get free upgrades to Business. Trust me, it makes a huge difference when you're in the air for about 15-16 hours.

It varies from airline to airline but if you did say 6 months advance the data changes as more low fares and seats. But as i said varies i just offered up as a way of checking. Most airlines allocate so many seats in pre advance so that they make sure they can fill the plane as explaned by a few airline execs.

I use same method to choose from and from singapore to bkk.
But for me i get access to industry rates so i only us zuji in black out periods.

My last trip i took was on jal full encon fare to korea with stopover in japan 1150 aud return. starnard fare 1800 - 2000 of the rack price walk up is 3300 aud.

I did find the $600 flight from LAX to BKK On Eva's website. But that's the only one among all others. Since I have booked AA all the way from DFW so I didn't bother to try ... the web site looks strange (not as convinient as travelocity, but all airline websites do) so I am suspicious if any pitfall is there?? anybody with any experiences on this site?
I have heard that you ought to go to the ethinical neighborhood for cheaper prices. For example, for cheap ticket to HK or taiwan, you can't get them any lower than you can get from these agents in Rowland Heights. So maybe we should start researching on the Thai community here in states?

If I was living in the Bay Area and had lots of Star Alliance miles, my prefered routing would be SQ1 (SFO-HkG) connecting to TG603 (HKG-BKK) .

I'd fly in coach using my FF miles. Sing Coach has better food and better movies/entertainment than United biz class. Granted the seats in United biz class will be roomier but Sing coach is a good experience. I didn't want to get off the plane; my movie wasn't over.

When using my miles, I tack on bali at no extra charge.
I spend lots of time on the phone with an United rep if she's friendly and helpful and also use

and check flight segements that often don't appear using my departure city and arrival city.

This site won't tell you if FF seats are avialable but gives you info you can give to the United fone rep.

Thanks for the heads-up PD. I'll definately check into it. I've never been to Bali before, but definately wouldn't mind making a side trip and checking out the scene there!
