Hmm just found out need to fill out a visa form for tourist entry to thailand .
has anyone got any info on this do i have list a name of someone in thiland since is my first visit is this ok to leave blank.
No worries about the visa application, I am assuming you have an Austalian passport.
Normally you fill out the form on the airplane as the flight attendants hand them out about an hour before landing. You do not have to specify any person to stay with, but you should put down the name of the hotel you are planning on your 1st night. Also save your boarding pass as the immigration staff want to see that too. The form is very easy and straightforward to fill out. There is no charge for a tourist visa and it is valid for 30 days from entry.
Warning: if you overstay the 30 days without a visa extension here is what happens!
1st and 2nd day $1000 baht per day and the 3rd and after $500 baht per day. Cost me $2500 baht to give you all this message. (it was worth every Baht )

david from
As an Australian travelling on an Australian passport you get a visa on arrival. You just fill in the arrival and departure forms you are given on the plane.
It is valid for 30 days from arrival.
There are big electronic messages at the airport saying overstay is 200 THB per day so not sure why incher was charged 2500 for 3 days.

Well that€™s if your lucky and don't get caught by the Police with the expired Visa... if so you could be arrested and deported. So its best not to think it's OK to over stay your Visa and get away with it by just pay a fine at the Airport without really knowing the true risks involved.
The reason you€™re only paying a fine at the Airport (No arrest and deportation) is because you€™re technically surrendering yourself to Immigration and exiting the country.
Just imagine you€™re in a Pattaya bar that€™s raided by the police and you have nothing but an expired Visa to show them€¦ you're now in deep shit mate! and off to the Monkey house you just might go.
over stay used to be 100 bhat a day cheaper than extending a visa. aussie passport dont need a visa for a 30 day stay
3 month tourist visa is the one to get if you are staying longer. apply at local embassy.

aussie passport dont need a visa for a 30 day stay
Technically you actually do need a visa but for many countries you get it on arrival and do not need to apply through the embassy for a 30 day stay.
ozzie - the price for overstay changed recently
Must have been very recently as I was there until 29th of April so only got home 2 weeks ago. At that time at Don Muang the signs all said 200 THB. However as they say TIT so they can probably charge what they like.
Thnaks all for the infomation i am only staying 3 day two nights in between meetings in singapore and malaysia this trip my next trip i may threaten the 30 days

Yes, these days you have to be over 50 with B800,000 in the bank. Not a rule of thumb though, a friend is 74 and got away with B300,000 instead.
I heard of a case where the immigration official actually loaned the B800k for a couple of days - for a B20k fee of course!

When I went for my monthly border run on the 5th May, the overstay price had already risen to B500 per day.
Things may have changed now, but the first day's overstay at the airport used to be free.
david yes indonesia has become stupid. one of the reasons i stopped viiting jakarta was because they changed visa requirments from3 months on arrival to everymonth cost$30 us before arrival
