Planning a 1st time trip to Pattaya

I'll be in Pattaya next week. Get in to BKK at 11:45p. After the long flight from the US - is it realistic to try to go down to Nana that night for fun - or is it best to get some rest that night and jump in with both feet for the rest of the trip?

Is it wise just to stay out by the BKK airport the first night?

I'll only be in the country for 4 days. I was thinking of heading down to Pattaya on my first day. Is it hard to find a taxi in BKK to take you to Pattaya?

What do the Taxi's look like? How do you find them?

With the language barrier, how do you tell the Taxi driver where you want to go and how do you negotiate with them?

Once in Pattaya - can you hook up with LB's during the day - like 1pm in the afternoon? If so - where are the best daytime palces to go to meet them?

Do you find prettier girls in the GoGo's at night? What time do things start heating up?

I hear there are lots of ATM's in Pattaya? Is that true? Are the prompts to use them in English?

My flight out of BKK on the way back leaves at 6:05am. Is it wise to stay out by the airport on the last night - so it's easy to get there to get out so early in the morning?

Any recommendations on where to stay out by the airport? If you stay out by the airport - is there a way/place to meet LB's out there?

You can go to Pattaya direct from the airport, approx 1 hr ?? at that time of night and about 1300 Bht ??. That way you start off in Pattaya. Go to your Pattaya Hotel check in, set up your room, head straight to Walking str. No need to stay out at the airport at the start or end of your trip. Just need to make allowance for the early morning traffic in BKK on day of departure.

You say you are only in Thailand for 4 days. If this is the case I could not waste any of them sleeping. I suggest to try and avoid jet lag as much as possible you sleep on the plane when it is night time in Thailand on the way there. I realise it is a long flight but once you arrive and get to Nana you will forget all about it. The bars are currently open until 2:00am so you should make it to Nana by 1-1:30 depending on where you are staying.

No not at all at that time of the night it should be a 30 minute trip to Sukhumvit area. Just jump in cab and you will be at your hotel before you know it.

Not hard at all. Some more information about how to get to Pattaya from BKK and the airport. However I recommend staying in BKK for the duration given your limited time as all the ladyboys can be found in one spot, good old Nana Plaza. In Pattaya unless you have been before you might become a bit daunted by its sheer size.

Most of the taxi drivers speak enough English. to communicate. You should only negotiate for the ride down to Pattaya and insist on using the meter for the trip into BKK from the airport.

Someone with more knowledge of Pattaya than I can respond here. I have many phone numbers accumulated from previous trips that I use for some afternoon delight. So I know what to expect as I have stayed with them before. You might have some trouble finding a working ladyboy awake at 1:00 in the afternoon.

There is only one ladyboy GoGo really in Pattaya and that is Stringfellows. In Nana Plaza BKK you have 4 GoGos namely Casanova ,Temptations ,Cascades and Obsessions there would be 100 - 150 lovely ladyboys all within minutes of each other. No point getting to the Nana bars before 7:00 really. You can watch the girls come to work by sitting at either Lucky Lukes or Big Dogs at the front of Nana.

I hear there are lots of ATM's in Pattaya? Is that true? Are the prompts to use them in English?

Yes they are everywhere in Pattaya and BKK. The prompts are in English. Just check you use one with same synbol as the back of your card such as Cirrus or Plus.

Another reason not to go to Pattaya. If you are in BKK you can go to Nana the night before grab a short time and then head out to the airport about 3:30-4:00am at that time of the morning there will be no traffic.

Hey Ozzie and Torurot - that's some great advice - thanks a lot for taking time to help me out.

Ozzie, it seems like you'd recommend just ahnging out in BKK and skipping Pattaya since I'm on limited time this time - anyone else have an opinion on Pattaya vs. BKK?

My inclination is to check em both out so I'll know where to spend more time next time.

Why not?

U gotta hit the ground running so book a car from the airport to Pattaya, shouild take about 2 hours and set you back 1200 baht plus tolls and tip for a grand total of 1500 baht.

Check into the hotel, shit, shower, and shave and go find a girl. Will be easiest to go to a girl bar and sleep with a genetic girl on the first night. Just walk a short way in any direction from your hotel and you'll find a bar.

Then the next day go to Hi Boss at 2PM for an afternoon quickie. Then check out the other ladyboy bars that night.

So you don't miss yor flight you'll want to spend the last nioght in Bangkik. Stay at a hotel near NEP and check out all four ladyboy bars there.

I may be biased, but considering the fact that 1) it is your first time in Thailand, 2) you are only there for 4 days, and 3) you are traveling alone, I would advise you to spend your time in Bangkok. 4 days is a good amount of time to spend there and aside from the nightlife, there's a lot of interesting touristy and cultural things to do/see. Not so much in Pattaya in my opinion.

If you're there for the sex, go to Pattaya.and have a non-stop 24/7 revolving door mind blowing experience.

I just remember back to my first trip and I only stayed in BKK for 5 days then went up to Chiang Mai for 3 days. I did quite a bit of research but there was not much information available. I remember it actually took me 2 days to find Nana plaza although I had walked past soi 4 on numerous occasions for some reason I thought it was off Sukhumvit.

Anyway my point is if it is this easy to get lost in BKK on your first trip imagine going to Pattaya for your very first trip. Everything is so far apart and you need to take a motor bike taxi or baht bus around everywhere. It is easy to find the girls for seasoned veterans and people who have been there before but I think not as easy for someone visiting for the first time and harder than it is in BKK.

I don't dislike Pattaya just in small doses for me as it is very In your face.

I say stay in BKK. Not sure on your budget but stay close to Nana plaza say at the Dynasty Inn, Nana Hotel or if money is no object then maybe the  JW Marriott or the Majestic Grande all of these are within a minute or 2 of the great Nana plaza. Checkout Hotels, Bangkok for more information.

You are then also close to the BTS and can do some of the more touristy things during the day. If you really want some afternoon action you are more like to get a freelancer awake at this time , however as it is your first trip I say stay with the  bar girls. There are many numbers available on this forum in the Ladyboy Locator.

If you do decide to go to Pattaya then definitely spend your last night back in BKK.

I'm diefinitely there on a humanitarian mission to increase relations between my country and there's!

I think I'll probably start the trip in BKK and end it there -and go down to Pattaya in the middle. I'll be able to find my way around down there - hell - there's only two major north and south streets - a handful of LB bars right?

One question about hooking up with a GG in Pattaya - any favorite places? Does it really matter? GoGo's, bars, freelancers?

Dude, relax and go with the flow. Don't act or look like a new guy cuz you'll get burned. Get off the f-in' plane, get some baht, get in line for a taxi, have the driver stop and get about 4 beers for the taxi to pattaya, get to your hotel, wash your ass, unpack your shit out of the suitcase (so it doesn't look like you just got there), then hit the streets, pop some viagra, get drunk, eat some monkey on a stick, find a honey, drag her back to the hotel, blow your load, send her home, then....you can get in your pajamas and sleep. Go hard or go home! Have Fun!!! Take it Easy and Sleazy!

Just a few additional comments:-

1. If your there just for ladyboys - just stay in Bkk, preferably in the Sukumvit Road area, near Nana. As mentioned by the others Nana (NEP) is the ladyboy capital of the world.

2. On the other hand IMO Pattaya is nicer during the day - its a seaside resort, with much less pollution, traffic and general grime than in BKK. Pty hotels usually have better pools and resort facilities. Pty is significantly cheaper for hotels, food, girls and ladyboys. Transport within Pty is very easy on baht busses and motor-bikes.

3. Pty has thousands of bars & girls and lots of gogo's, but the ladyboy scene is a small proportion of the total.
The earliest LB action would be at the Hi-Boss bar in Soi6 from about 2pm. I like the Hi-Boss but many on here regard it as a shit hole. Hotties are to be found at the Jenny Star bar on Walking St from about midnight.

4. Getting to Pty from the airport is fairly easy. Ignore the touts in arrivals and head for the official cab rank. To Pty its about 1500 baht, but the driver will ask you for another 200 baht for the expressway (well worth it). takes about 2 hours. Plenty of money change facilities in arrivals.
At this time of year there is plenty of hotels with vacant rooms in Pty. You can pay 700-1000 for a very acceptable room in the Soi7 - Soi8 area.

Go straight to Nana Plaza, do not pass Go, do not emerge for daylight until you get back home
