  • Koh samet!

I'm going to Koh Samet soon just for a couple of nights...

I'm looking to spend between 1,500 & 2,000 Baht on a room for me and 'a friend!'

I'm not 'roughing it' in a 'fan only' bunk behind the bus station but neither can I run to an expensive resort.

If anyone can help with a recommendation I would appreciate it!

    Thanks,

    Stogie

    Stogie Bear,

if you are in contact with Natalie ( Blonde hair ) she takes herself & her LB friends there to let off a bit of "steam" occassionally, so she might have an idea whats what on the hotel front.

You pays your money & takes your chance. This isn't a rehearsal do it now, it's no good looking back when it's a lover & wishing.... ITS TOO LATE.

Hold my hands up Frank, City deserved it , they did a good number on us  and Ronaldo was acting like a smacked arse for what he did

P.S. I would be taking someone with me , but the hotels seem few on the net, just wondering if anyone knew any good places that are not on the web.

I'd recomend the Tonsak (spelling) Phone numbers are
038-644314 or 01-7826646. The website below shows what the rooms look like when it was called the Chancoy. Can not use the phone numbers from the website though. But the prices quoted are what I paid.

            http://www.chancoy.com/service.html

I stayed in Room 5, but the less expensive rooms looked nice.

Mostly a Thai clientelle, they do not take credit cards (i think) and no safe either in room or even at desk. To avoid confusion you might need your friend to call and speak Thai.

There are only two acceptable hotels on Sai Kaew Beach. They are the Sai Kaew Beach Resort (NOT Sai Kaew VILLA) and the Tonsak. The rest are shiteholes (with a capital S)which will not cut it for your honeymoon trip.

When it comes to hotels I'm a cheap charlie that pays 500 a nite in Pattaya but on Samet cheap doesn't cut it.

Sai Kaew Beach is the beach you want to be on IMO. Each beach has a slightly different feel and this is the beach we're I think you and your honey will be happiest. It's certainly the safest choice.

Sai Kaew is a beutiful beach and at night you eat on huge mats that are rolled out on the sand. Great dinners for two such as a whole fish plus another dish plus drinks all for 500 baht including tip. Beach massages for 200 baht. Day snorkle trips on a boat for 500 baht. Or you can rent bikes and go on the dirt roads.

I'm assuming this trip is connected to the Stogie offline post so you'll be going from Mon to Thur which is good news cause lodging availabilty, especially Tonsak, is much easier during the week since it caters to a Thai clientele.

This is Squirly's pic of Odet which show dinner in Samet,
lying on the beach under the stars.

You can share a whole fish, have some sides and drinks and walk away spending 500 baht for the best dining ambiance in the world.

Sorry to hear the camera mishap. How about hotel info? Which one you stay? Where you ate? etc...

                        I love Samet.

But the choice of lodging is more crucial on Samet than any other place in the LOS,.    You won't be happy staying in an uncomfortable room or in the wrong location.

If you've never been to Samet, I recommend staying on Sai Kaew Beach.  It's possible that your taste may be different than mine but Sai Kaew Beach has the least downside and is the most lively.

The choice of hotel is key.   Most of the lodging is shite so it's worth paying extra for the right accomodation.  For the fisrt timer, stay at the Sai Kaew Beach Resort (but don't confuse this with the way inferior Sai Kaew Bech Villa).

Sai Kaew Beach Resort (not Sai Kaew Villa)-The safest choice for someone who wants to plan a trip with no surprises.  Easy to book through a travel agent or internet.

                        http://www.thaihotels.com/hotels/roo...ures-2688.aspx

google for "sai kaew beach resort" for more info.

Tonsak-One of the two decent hotels on Sai Kaew Beach.  Room 5 is the best.  On the net as the Chancoy but new owners and name.  038-644-314.  Thai clientelle, no Eurotrash or ugly Americans (except me). No inroom or front desk safe is the big negative.

                        http://www.chancoy.com/service.html

Ban Ploy Samet-A cheap charlie version of a Tahiti overwater bungalow.  Not for everyone though, not on a beach,   If not staying there, it's  a nice place for lunch on a day you rent mopeds.  First timers should not book here.

(ronin @ May 08 2006,19:47)  Where you ate?  etc...
For dinner pics see Squirly's pic above.  That's Samet dining!   Notice Odett is holding a plate on a small table a couple feet off the ground.

This is my numero uno dining experince in the world.

Also, the reataurant at Ban Ploy Samet (need moped) is cool.  Your feet dangle down towards the water and you can throw food down to the fish.

You can book snorkle or fishing day trips for about 450 baht pp.

Everything is cheap on Samet.  EXCEPT lodging.
