I have a strong preference here and am curious if everyone has the same preference.

Combination lock..although I found one in a KL hotel with the whole keys panel poorly glued and coming off very easily with all the wires dangling. Another time, somewhere esle I don't remember, the lock didn't work so I had to change room, and a third time the instruction where so complex that took me some 20 minutes to figure it out how to use it!
Is it just my bad luck or it did happen to you too guys?Do only what you think it's good for you, and not what others think should be good for you!

I bring my own lock with me. A big stout fucker too. I never ever use a hotel supplied lock and key. And I give the safe the equivalent of a prostate check. How secure it feels, how well it's fastened to walls or floors...etc. Being a builder, lots of times I'll hide things behind the panels of the air-con, or refrigerators, and a few other places. I don't bring much more than a camera, pic/video, and clothes. Another thing I find very handy is a light cable, about 1000 lb test, with loops on each end. Along with a lock and key you can string all of your stuff together and lock it down. So far I've been very lucky, and have never suffered more than a condom theft.
good luck

The JW Marriott has installed new larger safes in the rooms. They are large enough for you to put your laptop in them.
I fucked up the code and was locked out. It was funny because I had Noon in the room at the time in my bed... I called the front desk and they sent up 2 security officers. They asked me not to watch as they cracked the safe... took them 5 minutes. I think it was more of a show then anything elce since I know they just use a special code they have to open it. Once open he wanted my signature.. And walked down towards me into the main part of the room... this is when he sees Noon in my bed... he was so surprised it was funny. The security guys apologizing... I tell him it's no problem. They then left... hahahahah!Attached Files

Hello PigDogg,
You missed one out!
The latest room safes have a swipe card reader. You swipe any credit/debit card through and then that is the only thing that opens/locks the safe.
OK you have to take that credit card with you but you can't forget the number and if you lose the card I have no doubt the hotel can still get into the safe.
I did a good laugh in one hotel. They had nice new key pad safes. Only problem - they were not fixed to anything

i always stick with downstairs safety deposit boxes
all of the keypad safes now factory set overide codes which may or may not have been reset when installed
some are not fixed down properley hence it can be easily ripped out
and some have a failsafe options to open when powered down
to short out the battery pour some water over the safe and wait for the bang
so its down stairs for the valubles at least you can then get the police involved with a degree of confidance if anything happens
i have a small bag that has a padlock on for passport and money anything else im well insured
