  • Ranong, Andaman Coast

Anybody been, or familiar with the coastline area from Ranong, to north of Phuket? I'm looking for a semi-secluded area with an ocean view to buy a piece of property. I'm not interested in Phuket because I'm a ho and I'd end up living at C+D. Rather like to have a simple place to kick back, and relax. Also want to stay North of Phuket as to not inflame the intolerant religious zealots in the deep south. I like my head where it is.
Any help would be appreciated. It's either there or way up North. And nothing on the Gulf of Thailand... water sucks. Thanks

I was in Hua Hin a few years ago, and there was crap everywhere in the water, and likewise Ko Samui, I thought I found a nice place to swim, but when we went down to the water, there was a dead cow bobbing in the surf. The quality of the water on the gulf side is pretty low until you get well down south. Sea side is much cleaner. It circulates much better.

        RM,

i just returned from Hua Hin where I spent 4 days over Songkran relaxing. The beach front coastline is vast around 15 kms long so when you walk away from the hordes around the Sofitel and Hilton you discover the most beautiful white sandy beaches. I walked the entire beach and found great seafood restaurants and places to swim and snorkle. The other alternative is Cha-am where most of the Thais go for the weekend.

I found Hua Hin very western style in the make up of people walking around there so it felt very touristy. Lots of Scandanavians and Germans live there.

have a look at www.mythaitravel.com they have a section of Hua Hin travel.

www.huahinafterdark.com is another good site for info on Hua hin and the surrounding areas.
        cheers,

Jungleland, try taking a look a little further south of HH, around Chumphon. Very few farang tourists make it that far, and if you are far away from the (fishing fleet)harbour the water and beaches are very nice. The lack of tourists means that you can still find seafront plots of land at very interesting prices. Just means you have to build your house/condo yourself. Rayong and Pattaya/Jomtien = expensive and crowded.

I have a house and my Thai wife's family lives south of Ranong near Lam Son National Park. This area is virtually unknown to tourists although there is one Guest house near the park run by a farang and his Thai wife. The drawback is the average rainfall in this area is the highest in Thailand. The sea is very calm in this area. There are several very nice beaches south of Prachuap Kiri Kan that have no bus service. I want to keep one a secret but take a local train and get off and hire a samlor to go to the beaches in this area. You will be pleasantly surprised.
