Dunno if this is the correct forum. But I read on Dynasty Inns website on the history of Thailand: http://www.dynastyinn.com/th_glnc.htm
[Three decades ago it could be said with presumed certainty that the Thais originated in Northwestern Szechuan in China about 4,500 years ago and later migrated down to their present homeland. However, this theory has been altered by the discovery of remarkable prehistoric artifacts in the village of Ban Chiang in the Nong Han District of Udon Thani Province in the Northeast. These include evidence of bronze metallurgy going back 3,500 years , as well as other indications of a far more sophisticated culture than any previously suspected by archaeologist. It now appears that the Thais might have originated here in Thailand and later scattered to various parts of Asia, including some parts of China.]
Well I know that Thai people have oriental facial features. However many look Indian in appearance an could pass for Indians, yet they are of course Thai through and through. Were there some migrations between Thailand and what is now india? Did the spread of Buddhism from India be a factor? Finally is there any animosity between the 'oriental' Thai and the Indian looking ones because the latter are not originally Thai? Or am I looking for racial differences because of growing up in England?
