  • flight only or package?

I am not regular traveller so was thinking of going Bangkok from the UK in the summer for LBs. Would regulars advise getting a package holiday at Thomas Cook or any other agent, or get a flight only and find the hotel from there.

The reason Im asking, the hotels booked with travel agents, are more likely to be the respectable family types, who may not allow them in, or not be near the ladyboy 'red light district'.

Am I wrong in thinking that? How do regulars do it? Do they circulate the names of hotels on this forum and book rooms seperately from flights?

Or would you advise those seeking fun not to use the same hotel for sleeping with LBs, for their own discretion and safety? You would not want the other guests to know your business?

Just a thought and would welcome advice

Book your flight yourself through the net and same with Accom. Read the pinned info re hotels and be confident in the advice.
Most hotels i have stayed with in Bk or Pattaya don't require a deposit and i always pay cash after i check out the room. Most take cards if thats your thing.
I usually stay a little away from the action but i know the BTS system well and i use taxis as well as they are dirt cheap.
Most of the digs that are mentioned here are budget but in LOS budget is compleatly different to what Budget can mean in Australia, USA or London.
600 to 1500 baht per night in Sydney can't even get u a back packers shared dorm these days but in BK and Pattaya u get a clean and safe room for yourself with tv, shower etc.
The pinned info will tell u which are good value and LB friendly etc. Have fun checking stuff out and if your not sure , ask.

I agree, do not buy a package tour, the hotels they generally put you in are mostly tourist / family places & will charge an overnight guest fee. They will also stick you on any old carrier, you are on that flight for 11-12hrs you need a decent carrier. If i was flying out of UK & I wasn't about the airmiles consider, EVA air, Thai, Singapore, Cathy, use trailfinders, they have been pretty good to me in the past for flights.

Hotels you can book thru' the internet, & there are loads of recomendations on this forum. The difference is recomendations on the forum are based on actual visits / stays by the members who do exactly what you want to do, so the recomendations are worth noting. My personal favorites would be Bangkok, Majestic Suites, ( Majestic Grande is an excellent 5star hotel but is about £50 a night, no guest charges tho' ), Pattaya Sunshine hotel Soi 8 ( can be a bit noisy at night ) & Phuket Patong beach the Sunhill Hotel. I have stayed in the Majestic & Sunhill loads of times, the Sunshine was a recomendation from a regular visitor on this forum & i considered it to be OK & I am staying there again this May.

If you get an ULTRA cheap package with say three nights at a hotel located in Sukumvit area of BKK take it, and use that time to look around the area and then move yourself to another hotel as recomended on this board. Most people in a hotel don't give a RATS what you do or who you are with, so long as you don't disturb other guests. BKK is a big city, it's not likely your going to bump into your next door neigbours. :-) and if you do, well there are threads on this board that deal with that as well....

I would book your flight and hotels seperately mate.
Most packages are based on twin share, and more importantly the hotels can be far away from where u wanna be, i.e. the action, and if your new to BKK, this can be a pain finding your feet, WASTING valuable time.

Also I would only book the hotel in BKK beforehand for a couple of nights, to save you the hassle of looking when you arrive in LOS after a long journey.

This gives you the freedom to go where you want when you want.

There is a lot of great information on this site, from fellow members who have experienced hotels, places and bars to go etc first hand.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

There is one guarantee,  it is that you will return for sure
