budget for a week

I was told that Thailand is a cheap place for a holiday relatively speaking compared to Europe which is why its popular among backpackers.
I have mates who go every year.

I am on a tight budget trying to cram my week's trip between a heavy schedule. Would a budget min 400 be ok? Or is it too low? Would welcome advice

If you are on a tight budget then I strongly recomend Pattaya. i don't know if by 400 you're talking pounds, dollars, euros so i'll talk baht.

Figure 5000 baht a day for everything except airfare. Yes, you can do it cheaper, but if you're spending big bucks for airfare, it doesn't make sense to watch every baht.

Nice Pattaya hotels for as little as 500 baht.
Longtime (all night) ladyboy 1000 baht.
That leaves 3500 baht a day for everything else, food, beer, shortimes, massages etc.
Lots of wiggle room in this budget. Pattaya is much cheaper than Bangkok.

Now if one wasn't working at home so you could stay till your money runs out, you could still have a nice hotel and have a girl wake up with you in the morning, but watch your expenses elsewhere and come in at 2500 baht a day.

I was talking about UK 400 pounds sterling spending money after paying for the flight and hotel. That comes to 26,791.53 BHT (according to todays rate at universal online currency converter: http://www.xe.com/ucc/ )

Reckon that should be ok for BKK?

While it's not impossible to do Bangkok on 400 pounds a week, you're cutting it very close. You'll get more bang for your buck in Pattaya.

it won't necessarily make a huge difference but you don't always get the posted rates. remember the banks gotta make their money somehow. namely skimming it off the top before getting it into your pocket.
