Ladies and gents,

travelling to hat yai in a couple of weeks from penang, anyone got the good oil on the place, bars, gg or lb, hotel recommendation anything really folks, as have no inf at all. all / any assistance appreciated.

Been to Hat yai about 6 times but haven't been for  about 3 years so may be a bit out of date.

The scene is geared towards Malaysian tourists so not your Bangkok type scene, they head across the border on business (i.e. screwing) trips, there used to be a couple of go-go bars but last time was there were closed down. Every hotel has a massage parlour on the premises, you can go to them or have a girl sent to your room. Nora Hotel has a large massage place.

I always stayed at the Siam City Hotel, any taxi driver knows it, good rooms mini bar, some satellite tv was around 800 baht per night.

Hadsum Plaza has sexy shows everynight- thai pop bands, girls stripping and ladyboy shows, reasonably tame but good for a laugh and a few beers- one southern custom though- if you want to take out a girl, lb (or anything else probably!) from the show, instead of paying a bar fine you buy a garland which they wear and they are yours for the night subject to further negotiations.

As for ladyboys- had some superb sessions there- took 4 for a night out in Hat Yai one night (another story!), there are loads around the central night market around midnight, just buy some fried chicken and a beer and they will come to you as it were, most speak good english and no hassle.  

Songkhla nearby has a few western style bars and some girlie bars- offshore bar is good for a beer, as well as a beach.

Thanks Chillisauce, that sounds like enough to run with, will post a trip report if anything interesting show up, sounds a bit tame, but will wait and see.
