  • Birds blight bangkok international

I heard a news report today that the new Bangkok International Airport is built very close to the resting grounds of a huge number of migratory birds. There is some serious concern that the birds may interfere with landing and taking off at the new facility. Birds sucked into jet intakes are decidedly bad news.

Thai authorities of course had no plans to do anything in regard to the possibility and would be doing test landings and take offs this month in anticipation of opening the airport in the not-too-distant future.

They are talking about March/April 2006, according to some friends who are closely working in the project, supplying equipment to the airport. However, even that date seems slightly unrealistic.
The birds problem it's not a new one to airports, and affects almost all airports in the worls. There are systems to limit the possibilities of having the fowls getting into the planes' flight patterns. Don't ask me in details how. I just know there are. Being Thailand, I'm sure none of such methods will be remotely taken into consideration anyway!
