  • Baht bus routes

Got this from another board, and I still don't understand.

Baht Bus Routes ‑ The baht bus, for those who rely on public transport, are quite convenient in Pattaya. They continually ply Beach Road and Pattaya 2nd Road in a counter clockwise circuit.

€¢ Buses (dark blue, numbered) with white band across the lower part of the body go from Naklua to Jomtien, beginning at bus stop opposite Watanachai store.

€¢ Buses on the comer of intersection with South Pattaya opposite 'Pattaya Shoes' department store also go to Jomtien.

€¢ Buses from end of South Pattaya Rd/Sukhumvit go to Pattaya 2nd Rd and all the way to Naklua (sometimes). They may also go to Jomtien and up the hill on request.

€¢ Buses coming in from Central Pattaya Rd will go either to South Pattaya or Naklua. You must ask and point in the direction you want to go and the driver will either accept or say no if he is going the other direction.

€¢ White buses from Naklua go to Sriracha, baht buses stop on a soi going to Sukhumvit.

€¢ Light blue buses go from Naklua to Jomtien area on Sukhumvit. You can also use these buses at the Naklua now market for special hire ‑ the price will depend on distance and length of time. Go early in the morning (0600 hrs). Some expatriates use them to go to Sattahip area when making a trip to one of the islands (round trip approx. B400).

    Whats not to understand ?
Buses of different colors, may or may not show up at certain places and then will go or maybe not go somewhere for a fixed price that might not be fixed.

I don't think I've ever taken a bus within pattaya, always take a songkow.

What's the difference? There isn't a 'bus' service in Pattaya (yet) and you are left with the bewildering Mafia stranglehold on the public transportation system.

It's been a bone of contention for residents for ever and doesn't seem likely to ever change despite various government schemes and empty promises.

The Mafia in Pattaya must be a lot more economical than the Mafia in Phuket.

The main road buses in Pattaya average 30 baht or so, in Phuket they start at 100, even if you only go 100m, and are snarky on top of that. At night, be prepared for 150-250 baht rides to get around the corner. Rumor is they wanted to put in Pattaya style main road buses and the Mafia threatened someone to not even think about it.

I think the baht buses in Pattaya are great particularly in the ecntral area. A pal has told me however that the fares have gone up form the standard farang price of 10 baht. Is this correct ?
I'm there next week . I wonder if its same as ever =

Absolutely. The Phuket Mafia owns that town. No cheap transportation from Airport to Patong. 150-300 Baht bus for a songkow. No regular routes, everything is 'for hire'

And they've managed to keep it that way, despite lots of talk of opening it up.

I find the fares in Pattaya quite reasonable.

I agree the transport in Phuket is pathetic. All along the beach road there is a long line of red mini type vehicles. They just sit there for hours on end and demand insane prices to go anywhere. For an international resort it is truely an embarassment. I cant see how anyone, even the mafia boss makes a nickle. But the good think is at least they arent stinking up the road with added fumes. I alway just rent a scooter and the hell with them. ( I know I am stinking up the beach road I like Phuket, but it is a shame that such nonsense is allowed. Maybe it can be the target of the next social order campain, They seemed to do rather well with "eliminating" the drug dealers.
