I've noticed that when I am with a Thai they always politely ask the driver if they will take them to such and such, before entering the cab.
Not me. I sit myself down and tell the guy take me here. Then if he starts giving me the "thats far away, I don't want to go BS" I pretend to not understand him. Works about 60% of the time.
I also hate taxi drivers in Bangkok, WHO DON'T KNOW BANGKOK. I was at Nana and needed to go to Emporium (ie Soi 4 to soi 26). This Cabby ends up taking me all the way to Lumpini Park and then back. a 2 mile ride, ends up being a 10 mile ride (and taking 40 minutes). I just gave the guy 80 Baht, even though the meter said 140.
