November is probably the best time to go to LOS. The weather is great, off-season everywhere, which means the prices are down and the girls hungry! Definitely try to avoid x-mas time. Wate of money and too many farang families around you.... and as the others already said: No way you should do Thailand in less than 14 days - especially if it's your first time. It takes a while you get adjusted to everything.

You can always find out what 'low season' is by checking out the rates at various hotel websites. Going in the winter means that the hotels and the girls are (a lot?) more expensive (and in demand!)
